    My excursion to Punto Tombo was the last of three penguin-spotting ports of call on my NCL cruise from San Antonio (Santiago) Chile to Buenos Aires and was a great conclusion, and I certainly recommend this excursion operated by Sussanich Turismo. As others have noted, Punta Tombo is a couple of hours ride from the port in each direction, but if you want to see scads of penguins and also some guanaco, it's definitely worth it. You'll get to see the countryside, and on the way going, we made a stop in Trelew to see the site of what's claimed to be the world's largest dinosaur plus a pit stop, and on the way back there's the box lunch (a couple of different kinds of sandwiches plus some fruit -- the company asks passengers at least a week in advance if they have dietary requirements). Our guide was affable and highly informative throughout the excursion. And she had brought along maps and other materials to provide visual context to her commentary. The penguins at Punta Tombo are Magellanic penguins, the northernmost species, which are the only penguins to use burrows for their nests. Starting a short walk from the parking lot, a wooden boardwalk leads up a moderate hill to the plain where the penguins have their nests from here towards the horizon. Penguins standing by the entrances to their burrows. Penguins napping. Penguin pairs grooming one another. Penguins ambling or striding as fast as a penguin can stride down the boardwalk. (Penguins have the right of way.) Penguins hanging out under the boardwalk. ... And penguins on the beach. The penguins seemed largely indifferent to the presence of people (who seem to be expected to stay on the boardwalk and not to wander around the nesting grounds). And it did seem that most people had had ample time to spend spending time with the penguins. And on the way back, we had an unexpected quick stop when the driver spotted some guanachos. I had made my reservation before leaving the U.S., and I would suggest that visitors do so. As noted, the tour company contacted me well in advance to learn my preferences as to the box lunch, and a week or so before arrival in Madryn, Lucia sent me detailed information on finding the tour staff after getting off the ship. There was relatively little time for sightseeing/shopping on return to downtown Madryn -- it's too bad that NCL hadn't allowed more time, but some passengers were nonetheless able to do some.

    Marcella was an excellent tour guide. She was so knowledgeable about the area as well as the penguin colony. She had the right balance of giving us information but also letting us have quiet time on our journey. We were the first van to arrive at Punta Tumbo, which was excellent. We could enjoy the colony before the crowds came. We saw an incredible amount of penguins! I booked this while I was in Port with a cruise ship. The tour operator had great communication before and the day of the excursion. Everything ran very smoothly, including getting us back to the ship in time with an unexpected earlier departure.

    Fun trip, very professional tour with a comfortable bus, good guide, and big lunch. It was about 1/2 to 1/3 the price of the cruise ship excursion so a much better value for the same or better experience. The penguins were hiding from cold winds and out fishing the day we visited but we still saw around 50 of them. Sussanich Turismo did a great job with communicating in advance in English and handling all the logistics.

    Traveled from cruise ship march 2024 with a 4 year old. We'll organized tour. It is a long drive both ways with not much to see but you will see a bunch of magellian penguins when you get to punta tombo and you will arrive back to your ship on time. Lunch was good and balanced
