Formed over millions of years as the Arkansas River cut into the rising granite of the Colorado Plateau, the steep canyon is more than 1,200ft deep and, in some locations, less than 50 ft. Wide. The class III, IV, (V) whitewater of the Royal Gorge features many exciting rapids such as Sunshine Falls, Sledgehammer, and the Narrows, just to name a few.
