Hellbender Brewing Company

These breweries are sample itineraries only. All schedules are subject to change. This handsomely-helmed DC brewery got its name from the Eastern Hellbender Salamander, which is the largest salamander in North America, and the third largest in the world! So, it’s safe to say that their beers boast BIG flavors. But they don’t just brew killer ales, they do it in an environmentally sound, super-efficient way using their hammer mill and mash filter to protect the earth from harsh effects and you from bad beer. Unlike any brewery on the east coast, Hellbender Brewing is able to use less grain and less water for all of its brews but brings you more flavor than you can even imagine. Let us take you on a behind the scenes tour of this brewery’s unique process and walk you through the science of why less really is more.

Port City Brewing Company

Tucked at the western most tip of Washington, DC, Port City Brewing Company is Northern Virginia’s most notable brewery. We know what you’re thinking… Virginia?! I thought this was a DC Brew Tour. And you’re right, but you may not know that Alexandria, VA is only a stone’s (bottlecap’s?) throw away from DC, and they’re churning out some of the most incredible craft brews that we just had to feature them on the tour. And to show us some love for including them, they’ve generously offered our tour-goers special samples and beers that are exclusive to the brewery and pack such a malty pinch, you may even forget you’re on planet earth. In fact, their beer is so good it earned them Best Small Brewery in America in 2016.

Right Proper Brewing Company

Right Proper Brewing Company started as a vision that centered around DC as a hometown, with each neighborhood defined by a different culture. A vision of heading to your local pub to grab a fresh glass of beer that was brewed on premise. A vision that would be defined by the yeasts used to ferment the beer, as opposed to the hops used to bitter it.

The trip was cancelled at 17.09 which was 21 minutes before the off. No emails, no texts, nothing. The next day I received cancellation notice due to lack of attendees. I joked with a lady sorting my refund that I better not be asked for feedback. Daft I have been asked when the tour was cancelled.

Was looking for something for a young couple to do one night while in DC. This was a blast! Our tour guide Jamie was great and made sure to get to know all of us! She was very knowledgeable in the breweries and brewing process. Each brewery was great and definitely has enough time to appreciate each brewery.

Ashleigh was our tour guide and was fun, friendly and knowledgeable. She handled the group professionally and worked with the ebb and flow of the group. This tour was a great way to spend a Friday night!

Hannah was an excellent tour guide! We got to taste a wide variety of beers and it was super fun to get to tour a bunch of local breweries we might not have otherwise gotten to see, even as locals.

We loved our guide, Ashleigh. She was fantastic, friendly and knowledgeable. She made us feel comfortable, and after ten minutes she was like a friend in our group. The only downside was the fact that 2 out of 3 of the stops were preparing for private events, and that made that made some of the tour feel slightly rushed. It was New Years Eve, so I’d imagine it doesn’t usually happen. Our favorite stop was Chacho, hands down. The owner was funny and thorough. He spent time with us, despite the fact that he was prepping for an event.

Jamie is an excellent tour guide. She knows her stuff and tailors the tasting to the group’s preferences. Our tour visited DC Brau, Hellbender, and Red Bear, all fine breweries, each unique. We enjoyed spending time with the other beer lovers on the tour, and it was great to see the craft beer scene thriving in D.C. My favorite beer from the tasting was the Penn Quarter porter at DC Brau, but it was all good.

This tour was super chill and Jamie was a fantastic hostess. She's super knowledgable about all the technical aspects of beer brewing and fun to hang out with while you sip (or chug). Highly recommend

Jaime is awesome!!! You have to book with her!! She’s awesome and knows her beer :) the van rode is mad convenient

Fantastic tour. Lovely beer. Very knowledgeable guide. A nice excursion off the beaten path. One of the many highlights of our trip.

Seamus was a great tour guide, a fantastic cicerone and became a friend by the end (but he said DC stood for Dallas Cowboy). You’re in for a great tour if you get Seamus!
