    This is probably the only museum dedicated to the long Norwegian history of polar expeditions and details the various iterations of the Fram expedition including Amundsen and comparing the charted route and techniques with Shackleton.

    This surpassed expectations. Unlike the Vasa (sorry Swedes) here we have boats that actually went somewhere, and have stories to tell. This was a fascinating museum, both with the boats and about the poles. The younger child loved the cold exploration, older child the geography and the boats. I enjoyed it all. The AV display on the Fram was brilliant.

    I did not plan to visit this museum at the beginning. But the weather was not good on the last day of my trip, I decided to try. First of all, if you do not like adventure, history and North / South Poles, you may not like this museum. Tourist or local people liked this museum quite much. It was crowd during my visit. But the museum was interesting and gained me more knowledge about North / South Poles and those Norwegian adventurers . I think it is worth to try. Location: it is easy to get here by bus or ship. And it is not far away from the central station. Food: There is a restaurant of the museum. If it is crowd, food may be sold out very soon. Family: I think it is good for family with children. If you also visit the Maritime Museum nearby, remember to buy both tickets together. You can have a discount.

    While the museum is a very good one with excellent displays, it was overly crowded and it would be better if time slots and maximum capacity limits be put in place. For the amount of crowds the noice level is excessive. The interior is dark making pictures almost impossible which is a bit of a disappointment. We were part of a tour group. I would not recommend as can't hear as no headsets were allowed. Not sure why. It is hard to figure out the layout and where to go

    Fram Museum

    Fram Museum

    The main exhibition in the Fram building has explanatory texts in ten languages and describes the three great Fram expeditions. In June 2013 we inaugurated our new Gjøa building, which is connected to the Fram with an underground tunnel. The centerpiece here is Gjøa, the first ship to navigate the whole of the Northwest Passage. There are brand new historical exhibitions on the expeditions of Gjøa and Maud, of the airplanes N24 and N25 as well as of the airship Norge, John Franklin's legendary expedition and those of Henry Larsen and Eivind Astrup. We also present current issues facing the High North such as polar bears, ice melting, gas and oil etc. There is a 116 seats cinema showing a polar introduction movie every fifteen minutes.
