I booked Tom's Soviet history tour at short notice – literally, the night before – and it was excellent. Tom is a comprehensive, knowledgeable and entertaining tour guide and I came away with a really rich sense of what life in Communist-controlled Tallinn was like. A highlight for me: stopping for a coffee and a traditional Estonian pastry at Kohvik Energia, a cafe in central Tallinn that hasn't changed a bit since 1972.

My wife and I spend two awesome hours with Tom in Tallinn.
Everything was just perfect: communication upfront was very easy and Tom gave us perfect recommendations for tours based on our interests.
On the day of the tour, Tom was at the meeting point before we even arrived and as most people know, we Germans are always on time if not too early. ;)
The tour itself had the perfect combination of history, current events and stories about everyday life in Tallinn and Tom seems to know everything about his city.

Tom is such a great tour guide! The first tour I went on was his tour of Kopli, revealing all the history of the neighbourhood, which, despite me living here, I didn't know. His tour was so informative and relaxed. When my family visited Tallinn I joined him for his tour of Old Town too, and they loved it. He has an amazing way of telling stories about the history of Tallinn and Estonia, his passion shines through. Would highly recommend if you are visiting Tallinn - or even if you are a local - getting Tom to show you around!

I absolutely adored this tour and as someone who travels a fair bit, it’s easily the best tour I’ve ever had. Tom definitely knew his stuff and told me a mix of obscure and detailed stories of Estonia under Soviet rule. I won’t spoil any potential tours, but I loved all the little facts and random trivia he dropped in. Even down to the detail of being able to explain all the imagery on the side of a nightclub/cinema. It felt more like a stroll with a mate than an actual tour. I was so engrossed that I barely even took any photos!
So many tours offer the high level history you probably already know, but this was in-depth and super interesting. Cannot recommend highly enough. Looking forward to my next trip and tour.
