What to expect
St. Gallen Cathedral
Visit the baroque style St. Gallen Cathedral which dates back to 1772. It is dedicated to the Irish monk Gall who built his hermitage here in 612. The Cathedral was designed by an Austrian architect Peter Thumb. Here, you will see frescoes painted by Josef Wannenmacher and a complete set of Church bells.
St. Laurenzen
Admire Neo-Gothic style architecture at the St. Laurenzen Church which is one of the most prominent churches in town besides the Cathedral. The building dates back to the 15h century, however, it was reconstructed between the years 1850 to 1854.
You will see a very famous library, the Abbey Library of St. Gall. It was declared a world heritage site in 1983. Here, you will find a collection of about 160000 medieval monastic books. It is one of the earliest monastic libraries in the world.
Galluskapelle
As you walk across the Gallus square, you will notice the statue of St. Gall and a fountain here. This is a very picturesque landmark where you can also take a short break and relax before continuing further.
Old Town Shop
You will be in awe when you see 111 Oriel Windows in the Old town which date back to the middle ages. These have been well preserved till date and are another reason besides fabrics as to why St. Gallen is famous for.
