Our adventure started with a 20-minute talk about the history of beachcombing on the Thames and then examples of actual finds that we could feel and hold, before we moved down the steps onto the actual beach area. We were told only to look on the surface and not to dig below the surface. There were many items to find and for the last 15 minutes our guide discussed our finds. We enjoyed the experience an will do it again.

Initially we were worried there were too many in our group, but once on the foreshore it became apparent there is more than enough beach and finds for everyone. The group was lovely and it was wonderful to share our finds with each other at the end and have them appraised by Robert our guide.
Robert made sure we were all safe before starting and gave us some tips on what to find. He was friendly and knowledgeable, and was happy to give advice and pointers.
Thoroughly enjoyable trip and a must for all who have mudlarking, beach combing and treasure hunting in their heart.

Several days prior to this tour, I took a mudlarking tour with the Thames Trust on a site below the Millennium Bridge and found many and varied artifacts. The Viator tour which took us to a site below the Cannon Street area was basically denuded of anything worth looking at besides roof tiles. I realize that noone can predict what the tide brings in, but if there’s going to be a successful tour that participants enjoy, the venue needs to be changed. I will recommend mudlarking tours provided by the Thames Trust, but will NOT take a mudlarking tour with Viator again. I was very disappointed by this experience.

Quite a surreal experience… and one I thoroughly enjoyed. Could have spent all day rummaging for artefacts! Found a couple of tiles which pre-dated the Gt Fire of London. Met a lovely group of fellow larkers…and our guide was very knowledgeable. Well worth the money.
