Wonderful staff and great spot to adventure from. Hot tub and sauna great at the end of a day. Food is excellent and the best overall value of a place to stay in south Iceland. I travel quite a bit and they have it all nailed down.

Anna from Midgard is the best! My wife, daughter and I scheduled a tour of Thorsmork in Iceland. Anna picked us up from our hotel in her modified Dodge truck and took us seamlessly through the area. She was not only very knowledgeable regarding the area, but she was also very kind, patient and she demonstrated that she had a tremendous sense of humor. We could see how much she loves Iceland and she was very proud to help us experience the "back country". We had a fantastic time and would strongly recommend a tour with Anna to anyone visiting the area!

As I said in the title, of all the money we spent in Iceland, this was absolutely the best value and I have no regrets at all about the cost. We had rented an SUV and had covered to go on F roads (and were covered for river crossings). That said, I knew getting to Thorsmork is a challenge and just wanted the piece of mind that a proper super jeep would give. I am so glad we chose this option. Midgard is a family owned and local company, so I liked that right off the bat. The 'base camp' is a nice hotel/restaurant and the vehicle the use ('super jeep') is actually a Mercedes small bus on enormous tires with a lot of clearance. I saw what some other companies have, we were definitely riding in style in this truck. Also, when we did cross the rivers (even larger ones) it seemed effortless and the lack of associated stress was well worth it.
Our tour guide was Ragnar, and he was probably one of the best tour guides I have ever experienced, anywhere in the world. He is a cousin to the owners of the company, and knows the area well (he was telling us how he had plans to camp in Thorsmork the next week with some friends and families), and it really showed over the course of the day. Since it was a clear day when we began, we took a little detour and drove on the black sand beach near where the ferry to the Westmann Islands is (that was a fun little detour). Then onward to the interior. We stopped at a small/secluded cave which was very neat, and then continued into the main valley area. The glacier tongue was busy (multiple buses), so we decided to see it on the way out (and nobody else was there on the way out).
When it was time for lunch we stopped at an area that had some picnic tables and a bathroom. We almost didn't get it, but in the end went with the boxed lunch. Pricey, but well worth it. The food was plentiful and super tasty. Then we continued on to one of the main camps, and went for a hike to an overlook. It wasn't terribly difficult, but it was a lot of steps. Ragnar even had some hiking poles we could borrow. The overlook of the entire valley from above was breathtaking. The weather kept changing, we saw the valley with clouds and clear, and the cloud moved through (a bit of rain), and produced the most striking rainbows I have sever seen. Some of the people on our tour (there were 12 people total) chose not to make the entire hike, but Ragnar kept us all organized without letting anyone slow the group.
We made a few other great stops before heading out, all the while getting great commentary about the area, the history and the wildlife from Ragnar. He even told us a (paraphrased) Saga that involved Thorsmork, as well as one from his home town. It was a long day (8+ hours), but probably be most enjoyable day we had there. I can't say enough good things about this company, and would absolutely do another tour with them the next time we are back in Iceland.

The Midgard team was absolutely lovely;as soon as we walked into the ‘base’ we were greeted by Hildur who was lovely. The base had a great feel to it with a cafe/restaurant which I did not eat in but it certainly smelt good! We got into our super Jeep and travelled to the volcano Hekla and stopped to take in the sights of the huge crater and the amazing view. We then drove to a spectacular spot where we chose to go on a hike but bring your swimming stuff if you think you might go into the hot pools instead! The views on the short hike were absolutely brilliant! After this we had lunch which was extensive and was hearty and delicious! Our guide also gave us hot drinks and even though it was raining this made it better! We then began to drive back to the ‘base’ and took multiple stops along the way to see the scenery. It was a beautiful tour and our guide knew all the best places and everyone felt very relaxed and safe in the hands of our guide! The super jeep is very bumpy but I think this adds to the fun! Our guide was lovely and he always made an effort to keep taking to everyone even when everyone was tired and it was nearly the end he still had a great sense of humour! This tour is great for everyone the tour guide had lots of great stories for the little ones and made everyone feel comfy! In conclusion I would always recommend Midgard adventures;I think that after the super jeep tour had ended I did not feel bad about how much money I had spent, I think it was very worth it bearing in mind the tour was from 9am-6pm!!! All of the staff were lovely and even though it is a long day your guide will keep you going and make everyone have fun! If you’re looking for activities Midgard is the one to go for!!!

Thórsmörk
Þórsmörk is located between three glaciers and volcanoes, Eyjafjallajokull (the one that erupted in 2010), Tindfjallajökull and Myrdalsjökull. On our way we cross glacial rivers, stop by the most interesting places including Gijokull Glacier - ice tongue of Eyjafjallajokull Volcano, and have short walks around. Inside of Þórsmörk is different hiking possibilities depending on your wishes. On our way to Þórsmörk, we also stop the canyons like Stakkholtsgjá and even at Nauthúsagil, a small beautiful canyon.
