Tokyo: Exclusive Geisha Dinner Experience

I had the pleasure of attending the private dinner with a geisha during my visit to Tokyo, and it was an experience like no other. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The geisha was not only beautiful but also incredibly skilled in the traditional arts, which made the evening even more special. The conversation, the tea ceremony, and the fascinating cultural insights provided by our guide made the experience truly unforgettable. The meal was exquisite, with delicious, authentic Japanese dishes presented beautifully. This is a must-do for anyone looking to immerse themselves in the traditional culture of Japan. Ken is one of the best guide tuour! he was very helpfull and because of him our days in Tokyo, haved more funn. The meeting with gheisha was also a big nice surprise, a grate cultural experience!

I have long had a interest in the arts and culture of Japan. And one of experiences I've most desired was to be entertained at a tea house by a geisha. During this trip I spent time in Kyoto, one of the major centers of geiko (geisha) culture. However, I wasn't able to book and experience while I was there. However, when I planned my trip to Tokyo I was easily able to secure Mr. Kensuke Ko to coordinate an evening to have a private dinner with a geisha. Within an hour Ken-san had sent me a detailed account of when we would meet, what we would do and what to expect from the evening. Ken-san and I met at 7:20 sharp for our 7:30 trip. He then began a brief tour of Kagurazaka, one of the six "Flower Towns" or Geisha Districts. He gave me an overview the history of the area from Edo period onward. Ken-san is quite conversational in English (and also speaks Mandarin) and is very friendly and enthusiastic about sharing Japanese culture with others. We easily got into a pleasant discussion pattern that extended throughout the trip. After the tour of the area, we eventually ended up at the ryōtei. A ryōtei is a traditional Japanese restaurant where geisha perform and entertain their clients. These restaurants are not normally open to the public and one can only gain access via a referral. As Ken-san had such a connection we were both able to enter and enjoy the restaurant. After we entered the restaurant, we were led to our private dining area. An server asked for our drink requests and soon began to bring our meal. What followed was an nine-course dinner of seasonal Japanese delicacies that explored a wide range of flavors and textures. I can say quite honestly that I enjoyed every single dish I tried, even the ones that were completely unfamiliar with me. Soon after our first couple of courses had been served our geisha, Orii-san entered the room and greeted us. Orri-san has over twenty years of experience working as a geisha and is truly a master of the arts of music, dance and conversation. While she wasn't fluent in English, she was certainly able to hold a conversation in English. And at any point she was not able to communicate her thought in English, Ken helped with translation. It was all very easy and comfortable. There was absolutely no awkwardness at all. So, if you are concerned because you do not speak Japanese (or are not fluent), please let me assure you this won't be a problem. After talking and eating for a while, we ordered a round of drinks. We all had a long discussion of Japanese culture as well as world culture in general. Both Ken-san and Orii-san are world travelers and shared their experiences of traveling abroad. After several courses, a shamisen player entered the room and played for us while Orii-san performed a traditional dance. While I had seen videos of traditional Japanese dance, nothing quite prepared me for the in-person experience. It was absolutely beautiful. The dance was followed by the shamisen player playing a traditional Japanese song about fishing. After this, Orii-san asked me to join her in a traditional Japanese folk dance. It only had five movements, but I did struggle a little bit. However, it was all in good fun and it was an enjoyable experience that left me with a smile on my face. Sadly, our evening being entertained by Orii-san eventually had to end. After exchanging pleasantries, Ken-san and I were were escorted out by Orii-san. Following this, Ken-san continued showing me the fascinating labyrinth of Kagurazaka, including some of the narrow alley ways geisha used to travel from their homes to various venues where they performed. All in all, the experience was amazing. And, extremely affordable, when compared with similar services. I would absolutely repeat this experience and I wholeheartedly recommend it. Ken-san was an excellent interpreter and I'm extremely grateful for his ability to coordinate such an enjoyable evening.

The experience was amazing! We had an unforgettable time and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Tokyo. Ken was a great guide as well.
