Your Itinerary

Centro Interpretativo dos Almendres

The Cromeleque of the Almendres is a reflection of gigantic proportions of the age of pagan enchantment, known like New Age of the Stone. Built towards sunrise and sunset, this megalithic enclosure is located on a gentle slope on the property of Almendres. A place that could very well represent the Alentejo. Formed by two distinct enclosures, built between the end of the sixth and third millennium BC, this cromlech is one of the largest and most important megalithic monuments in the world. It is much older than the famous Stonehenge.

Cathedral of Evora (Se Catedral de Evora)

You can see its silhouette from far away, elaborated in the urban landscape. The magnificence of the Cathedral of Évora can also be seen in the three large ships of the interior. In the highest, the central nave, we find the altar of Our Lady of the Angel. It is completely made of wood carving from the Baroque era, with Gothic images of the Virgin Mary and the Angel Gabriel in marble. In addition you can admire the pulpit and the most beautiful tube organ of the Renaissance period.

Capela dos Ossos

The chapel was built in the 17th century with the aim of conveying the message of temporality and fragility of human life. This message appears clearly to the visitors of the Chapel of Bones, just at the entrance, through the plaque "We bones, we are here, for you, we hope". In fact, it shows the macabre taste of Baroque men for necrophilia. The human bones and skulls carefully scattered and connected with cement cover the walls of the Bones Chapel and its eight pillars.
