Bishoftu
The Oromo-speaking town of Bishoftu is located fifty kilometers outside of Addis Ababa. Many residents of Addis Abeba take weekend trips to this area because of its many crater lakes. Day trips to the lakes or short hikes (the round of Lake Hora takes about half an hour) are both possible. Many flock here specifically to see the birds. The lake and spa are home to several eateries perfect for a midday meal.Debre Zeyt is home to five crater lakes, two of which may be seen upon arrival. You can go on short walks, observe birds, or snap pictures here. If you're looking for a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony, you can stop by a local coffee shop on your way to or from the crater lakes. Lunch will be provided at a neighboring resort after your excursion to the crater lakes. The resort's menu has surprisingly authentic Ethiopian and European dishes. Located on the northen tip of Bishoftu encompassing the smallest of the four lakes lies our flagship resort, Kuriftu Resort & Spa Bishoftu. With just 14 rooms and a lakefront restaurant at the time, Mr. Tadiwos made his offical debut by setting the standard for luxury and exquisite service, attracting guests from around the world to this unique establishment. Bishoftu
The best way to appreciate this scenic body of water is from the crater rim at one of the hotels, drink in hand. The view is sensational. According to local lore, this, the second-deepest lake in Ethiopia, is home to a sleeping devil. From time to time his evil gases kill the fish and send them bobbing to the surface to be scooped up by delighted waterbirds. Duration: 1 hour 40 minutes
