I had booked this tour well in advance and was looking forward to it. There I was, waiting to be picked up, as arranged, outside the hotel. After 20 minutes of no-show, I phoned the number and was informed that Algar de Carvão isn't open on Mondays, so the operator had cancelled the trip.
This incompetence ruined my trip to Terceira. The tour operator should obviously not accept bookings for days when attractions are closed. I could easily have planned to do things differently had I been warned in time. I asked for a refund over the phone - after all, it was the operator who cancelled, not me - but so far it has not been forthcoming.

We had a great tour seeing the caves and landscape of the island and Rafaella was a great tour guide! We really enjoyed it and learned a lot about Terceira too.

Whilst we weren't blessed with the best weather, Chris proved an excellent tour guide, driving us around the volcanology highlights of the island and giving us loads of information. She was also full of local knowledge and told us much of the recent history of this beautiful island.
Whilst the lava tube (Gruta do Natal) and the sulphur springs (Furnas do Enxofre) were amazing, the highlight was the enormous Algar do Carvao.
This trip was well worth doing!
