Royal Palace of Madrid
Admire one of the must-sees of the Spanish capital, which was built between 1738 and 1735. This official residence for Spanish kings is considered one of the finest palaces in Europe. This perfect baroque style building is definitely a sight not to be missed. Beautiful and historic, it has a plethora of interesting and eye-popping things to marvel at.
Plaza Mayor
Also one of the main squares of Spanish cities, made in the shape of a quadrangle. Stroll around one of the central squares of Madrid and be amazed by the 136 baroque buildings surrounding the place. Take a trip to the past as you learn about the principal historic events that took place there and all the previous names of the square. Wander along the iconic 114 arches and take the most memorable pictures.
Plaza de Oriente
Next famous square in your journey. The Plaza de Oriente is located in the historical center of the city. It is a rectangular area with curved shape, distinguished by the monumental character of their architectural boundaries. On the Plaza de Oriente there are two of the most important buildings in the capital: the Western boundary is marked by the Royal Palace, and East to the theatre Royal. The North side of the square formed by the Royal convent of the incarnation. Visit Plaza de Oriente to marvel at the monumental space with different gardens and an excellent exposition of sculptures of 44 Spanish kings. Plaza de la Villa
Head on over to one of the oldest squares in the city to travel back in time. Located only a few steps away from the great Plaza Mayor, this little cozy square is a hidden gem inside the noisy Spanish capital. The place is surrounded by old historic buildings, some of which date back to the early 15th century. Be fascinated by the arches, a gothic portal of Torre de Lujanes, and a monument to the sea explorer Don Alvaro de Bazan in the center. Plaza de La Villa is one of the best preserved architectural ensembles of Madrid. It is located in the old town, near the Puerta del Sol, and until recently it housed the capital's city hall.
Iglesia de San Gines
Two steps from Puerta del Sol, in the Arenal street is located the oldest in Madrid, Iglesia de San ginés de Arles. The first mention of it appear already in the IX century In the XIII century on this place there is a Church, which was rebuilt in 1645. Discover the beautiful red-brick Church of San Gines. Being one of the oldest churches in Madrid, it has witnessed many historical figures and events. Get a chance to see its real treasure: Christ Driving the Money Changers from the Temple, a painting by El Greco. It also shows other great paintings, such as The Lamentation by Michiel Coxie.
Catedral de Sta Maria la Real de la Almudena
The temple, built in memory of the patron Saint of Madrid – St. Mary Aladinsky, adorned with stained glass Windows, a giant 75-metre dome and a facade of blue-grey competent rock. The building is located opposite the Royal Palace. The complex includes a large observation deck that allows you to see the entire panorama of the city. Inside the Church is a magnificent altar made of marble emerald green color. Get inspired by the Almudena Cathedral, an architectural masterpiece and the main church of Madrid. The cathedral was under construction for more than a century, but since 1993 it has been a great attraction for tourists and locals alike. Combining neoclassical and neobaroque styles with Spanish features, it amazes with its architectural diversity and unique interiors. Feel the space as you step inside and admire the stunning, colorful vaulted ceiling.
Real Monasterio de la Encarnación
Near the Plaza de Oriente you will see a convent of the order of St. Augustine, the incarnation or Embodiment. To this day it retains the calm atmosphere of its predecessor Spain, which disappeared in the distant past.
Puerta del Sol
Just a few meters from the Plaza Mayor is another landmark of Madrid – Puerta del Sol (Puerta del Sol), which is another contender for the title of the city's main square. It is for this square drove the first car in Madrid, and in 1919, under the Puerta del Sol was the first line of the Moscow metro.
Plaza de Isabel II
