My husband I went to Gettysburg at the end of July. We appreciated all the great suggestions we received from everyone on Trip Advisor. We stayed at the 1836 Gettysburg Inn. Loved the location, parked the car and walked everywhere. Our guide for the tour was Fred Hawthrone. He was super, very helpful, informative and funny. Great way to spend the day. Had sandwiches at the Dobbin House and Gettysburg Eddies and treated ourselves to ice cream at Mr. G's. Hotel was clean and personnel were super friendly and went out of their way to assist us. Only disappointment with the hotel was their breakfast, which I found to be subpar. Overall it was a great 2 days.

My partner and I had an amazing evening walking tour with Kurt Kramer of Gettysburg Town Guides. The tour takes you (almost literally!) step-by-step through President Lincoln's trip to Gettysburg. Leading up to the tour, we had a storm blow through the afternoon. So we weren't sure if we were going to be able to go. But Kurt texted us about potential scheduling options throughout the day and was very communicative – which was helpful because we were driving in from across the state. In the end, the clouds parted and we had a wonderful time. Kurt is incredibly well versed on Lincoln's time in Gettysburg, as well as contextual historical information about the town and about the Civil War that makes this experience more much more rich than we were expecting. One thing I appreciated was: at the beginning of the tour, Kurt asked each of us what our existing knowledge was of Gettysburg and Lincoln (on a scale of 1 to 10) and then proceeded to calibrate the level of detail to our level. We could also ask questions throughout each stop on the tour and Kurt had detailed answers at the ready –– often including images and renderings from his binder. If you are a President Lincoln fan, or just an American History buff, this tour is a must!

Our guide was very personable and knowledgeable. We enjoyed seeing the railway station and imagining Lincoln coming off the train… The stories he told about Lincoln and the parade to the cemetery were interesting. It just got us thinking that Lincoln just didn’t come to the city and give a speech and leave… he attended a gathering, probably shaking hundreds of hands. ..
