Today in Chefchaouen was all about embracing the simple joys of travel: wandering through ancient gates, savoring local flavors, and soaking in the unique atmosphere of this blue-washed city. It’s amazing how much a change of scenery can refresh the soul, and today was a perfect example of that.

The day began with a hearty breakfast at the Riad Zaitouna Chaouen. Fuelled up, Daniel and I decided to start our exploration by visiting Bab El Ain. It's one of the main entry points to the old medina, and I wanted to see it up close. The walk there was lovely, with the morning light casting a soft glow on the blue buildings. I couldn't resist snapping a few photos, trying to capture the essence of Chefchaouen's unique charm with my camera, though I was kicking myself for forgetting to pack an extra memory card.

As we approached Bab El Ain, I was immediately struck by its beauty. Next on our list was Bab Chaouen. This gate is a bit further from the main square, and the walk there took us through some quieter parts of the city. I learned that it dates back to the reign of Moulay Ali Ben Rached, completed in 1511, and it serves as a direct passage to the newer parts of the city. By lunchtime, we were both feeling a bit peckish. We decided to try Amigo, a restaurant recommended for its local cuisine. It was a great choice! I ordered a tagine, and Daniel opted for couscous. Both dishes were incredibly flavorful, and the portions were generous. It was the perfect way to refuel after our morning of exploring. As the afternoon wore on, we decided to take a break from sightseeing and head to Café Mundial. We ordered a couple of cappuccinos and settled into a comfortable corner to watch the world go by. The café was buzzing with activity, and it was fun to observe the interactions between people. I even struck up a conversation with a local artist, who shared some fascinating insights into Chefchaouen's history and culture. I love these kinds of spontaneous encounters – they always add an extra layer of richness to my travel experiences.

The weather in Chefchaouen in November is quite pleasant, with comfortable temperatures. During the day, it's warm enough to walk around in a light jacket, but the evenings can get a bit chilly. We packed layers, which proved to be a smart move. There's a moderate chance of rain in November, so it's a good idea to bring an umbrella or a waterproof jacket. Fortunately, we had clear skies today, which made our exploration even more enjoyable.

As the sun began to set, we made our way back to the riad. The city took on a different kind of beauty in the fading light, with the blue buildings appearing even more magical. We relaxed for a bit before heading out for dinner. We ended up at Restaurant Morisco, drawn in by the enticing aromas wafting from its kitchen. I had heard good things about their ftour beldi, a regional specialty, and I was eager to try it. The meal was delicious, and the service was excellent. It was the perfect way to end a perfect day.

Back at the riad, I reflected on all that we had experienced today. From the ancient gates to the bustling cafés, Chefchaouen had captured my heart with its unique charm and vibrant atmosphere. I was grateful for the opportunity to explore this beautiful city with Daniel, and I looked forward to discovering even more of its secrets in the days to come.

Tomorrow, we plan to visit the Kasbah and Ras El Ma. I'm excited to learn more about the history of the city and to see the traditional water source. I'm also looking forward to doing some shopping at les_sens_de chefchaouen. I've heard they have a wonderful selection of local crafts and souvenirs. I'm sure it will be another day filled with adventure and discovery.

It's a small thing, but it will make a big difference in keeping my devices charged and ready to capture all the amazing moments of this trip.
