Epic Adventure to Iguazu Falls with Friends
Day 10: Chasing the Devil: An Iguazu Falls Adventure
Experience the raw power of Devil's Throat and the vibrant nightlife of Iguazu Falls. A day of awe-inspiring sights and electrifying sounds.
Roaring Majesty and Electric Nights
Today was a sensory overload in the best possible way. From the thundering cascades of Iguazu to the pulsing rhythms of the local nightlife, it was a day that reminded me why I love to travel – to feel alive and connected to the world in all its chaotic beauty.
The day began with a hearty breakfast at El Quincho del Tio Querido. The aroma of grilled meats filled the air, a promise of the Argentine flavors to come. After fuelling up, we made our way to the star of the show: the Devil's Throat at Iguaçu National Park.

As we boarded the Ecological Train, the anticipation in our group was palpable. The open-air cars offered glimpses of the surrounding jungle, teasing us with the symphony of nature. Butterflies fluttered around us like confetti, as if celebrating our imminent encounter with the falls. The air grew thick with humidity, and a distant roar began to build, a primal sound that vibrated in our chests.
Stepping off the train at Garganta Station, we followed the walkway leading towards the falls. The roar intensified with each step, the anticipation reaching fever pitch. And then, we saw it.
The Devil's Throat. A colossal curtain of water plunging into the abyss, a maelstrom of raw power and untamed beauty. The sheer scale of it was overwhelming, the spray soaking us to the bone as we stood in awe. The sound was deafening, a constant thunder that drowned out all other thoughts. I’ve seen Niagara Falls back home near Halifax, but this… this was something else entirely. Eleanor Roosevelt famously said, upon seeing Iguazu, “My poor Niagara…” and I have to say, I wholeheartedly agree.
The Devil's Throat is not just a waterfall; it's an experience that resonates on a deep level, a reminder of the immense power and beauty of nature.
We spent what felt like an eternity simply watching the falls, mesmerized by the endless cascade of water. The walkway trembled beneath our feet from the sheer force of the water. I tried to capture the moment with my camera, but no photo could ever truly convey the feeling of standing before such a spectacle. I made a mental note to be more diligent about charging my portable phone charger in the future, as mine had died, and I missed out on capturing some great moments.
After the Devil's Throat, we explored more of Iguaçu National Park. The park itself is a vibrant ecosystem, teeming with life. We spotted colorful birds flitting through the trees and curious coatis darting across our path. The rainforest was lush and alive, a stark contrast to the raw power of the falls. It’s amazing how such different aspects of nature can coexist in one place, each complementing the other.

Lunch was at Aqva Restaurante Iguazú, a welcome respite from the humidity and the crowds. The restaurant offered a sophisticated ambiance with softly gleaming timber and well-spaced tables. I opted for the local river fish, surubí, prepared in a simple pan-fried style. It was delicious, a delicate flavor that perfectly captured the essence of the river.

As the sun began to set, we headed back to Puerto Iguazú, but the day was far from over. Tonight, we were determined to experience the local nightlife, and Holy Iguazú, a nightclub known for its craft beer and lively atmosphere, seemed like the perfect choice.

The club was buzzing with energy. The music was loud, a mix of Latin rhythms and international beats that had everyone moving. The dance floor was packed, a kaleidoscope of faces and cultures all united by the joy of the moment. I even tried my hand at a bit of salsa dancing, with predictably hilarious results. My friends found it highly amusing, of course.
Holy Iguazú is associated with the Beer Hoteles Iguazú, which I found quite interesting. Apparently, they even have beer-related activities and interactive beer tours. I made a mental note to check that out if I ever find myself back in Puerto Iguazú.
We danced and laughed until the early hours, fueled by the infectious energy of the crowd and the potent local brews. It was a night of pure, unadulterated fun, a perfect counterpoint to the awe-inspiring majesty of the falls. As I stumbled back to our campsite, exhausted but exhilarated, I couldn't help but smile. Today had been a reminder that travel is about more than just seeing the sights; it's about immersing yourself in the local culture, embracing the unexpected, and creating memories that will last a lifetime.
Tomorrow, we are planning to experience the Paseos de Luna Llena en las Cataratas del Iguazú, which I am excited about. The idea of seeing the falls under the moonlight sounds magical. We are also hoping to check out Hito Tres Fronteras, where Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay meet. I am also looking forward to trying the local cuisine at Restaurante La Selva. I am told they have a great buffet.
