A Symphony of Water and Art
Today was a sensory feast! From the thundering cascades of Iguazu Falls to the vibrant art scene in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil, I experienced a day that truly captured the essence of this incredible destination. It's days like these that remind me why I traded my predictable life in Halifax for the open road.
The day began, as it should, with the star of the show: Cataratas do Iguaçu - Brasil. The sheer scale of this natural wonder is something you have to witness to believe. Photos and videos simply don't do it justice. The roar of the water, the mist kissing your face, the rainbows dancing in the sunlight – it's an all-encompassing experience. I was particularly excited to visit Salto Santa Maria, a breathtaking waterfall known for its stunning natural beauty. It pays homage to the explorer of Río de la Plata, who initially named Iguazu Falls as Santa Maria. The falls offer a remarkable opportunity to immerse oneself in nature's splendor. The sight of water plunging over the cliffs, accompanied by the sound of rushing water, creates a sensory experience that is both exhilarating and calming. The lush greenery surrounding the falls is teeming with wildlife, making it a haven for bird watchers and nature enthusiasts alike.

I spent hours simply wandering along the trails, soaking it all in. The well-maintained paths offer different perspectives of the falls, each more stunning than the last. I even managed to snag a few decent photos, though I know they won't truly capture the magic of the moment. I'm so glad my friends and I chose to come here in October; the weather has been perfect for exploring, and the crowds haven't been too overwhelming. I must admit I did miss Emily and Oliver today. Oliver would have been mesmerized by the falls, and Emily, with her marine biology background, would have appreciated the intricate ecosystem surrounding them. I made a mental note to bring them back someday. Perhaps we could even coincide our visit with the 'Walk in the Full Moon' for a unique experience.
To walk in nature is to witness a thousand miracles.
After a morning of chasing waterfalls, it was time to explore the cultural side of Foz do Iguaçu. For breakfast, we stopped at Empório com Arte, a charming spot known for its local art and delicious food. The cafe is located in an old wooden house that has been restored. Sérgio Teixeira Viana, the owner, transformed the old house into a cafe and art gallery. I opted for a traditional Brazilian breakfast of pão de queijo (cheese bread) and strong, sweet coffee. Fuelled up and ready to go, we headed to Iguazú Timbó Arte, a shop recommended by a local we met at the park.

Iguazú Timbó Arte was a treasure trove of unique clothing, footwear, and jewelry, all with a distinct Argentinian design. I picked up a beautiful hand-painted scarf for Emily and a quirky little wooden toy for Oliver. It's these little mementos that help me share my adventures with them when I return home. It's funny, you know, how travel changes your perspective. Before I met Emily, I was all about ticking off famous landmarks and rushing from one place to the next. Now, I find myself drawn to the smaller, more authentic experiences – the local markets, the family-run restaurants, the hidden gems that reveal the true heart of a place.

For lunch, we ventured to Costanera Puerto Iguazú, a restaurant with stunning waterfront views. I indulged in some freshly caught fish, grilled to perfection and seasoned with local spices. As I savored each bite, I watched the boats bobbing on the water and listened to the lively chatter of the locals. It was the perfect way to unwind and soak in the atmosphere.

As the sun began to dip below the horizon, we made our way to Naipi for dinner. This restaurant is renowned for its traditional Brazilian cuisine, and it did not disappoint. I feasted on a hearty feijoada (black bean stew with pork) and sipped on a refreshing caipirinha. The restaurant has a wide selection of traditional dishes. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the service was impeccable. It was the perfect ending to a perfect day.

Tomorrow, we're planning to explore more of the Iguazu Falls area, including the Circuito Inferior and a tour of Iguassu Falls. I'm also looking forward to checking out Bendito - Bar e Restaurante in the evening for a relaxing drink. But for now, I'm content to reflect on the incredible experiences of today. As I sit here in my tent, listening to the sounds of the rainforest, I feel a deep sense of gratitude for the opportunity to explore this beautiful corner of the world with my friends.
This trip has been an amazing experience. The falls are obviously the main event, but the people, the culture, and the food have all contributed to making this a truly unforgettable adventure. I am reminded that, like Arsenal, travel is about so much more than just the destination; it's about the journey, the camaraderie, and the memories we make along the way.
And who knows, maybe I'll even find some inspiration for my next batch of Arsenal-themed homebrew. Perhaps a 'Cataratas Cascade' IPA or a 'Naipi Nectar' stout? The possibilities are endless!

In the meantime, I'll raise a glass to Iguazu Falls, to Brazil, and to the joy of travel. Cheers!
