Day 8: Moonlight and Magic at Iguazu: A Night to Remember
Experience Iguazu Falls under the enchanting moonlight, dine on exquisite cuisine, and dance to Latin rhythms. A day of pure magic!
Under the Moonlight's Spell
Today was nothing short of magical, a perfect blend of administrative tasks, culinary delights, and natural wonders, all capped off with an evening under the Iguazu moon. The falls have a different kind of allure at night, and I was keen to experience it.
The day started with a visit to the Intendencia del Parque Nacional Iguazú. It's not every day that a historical reenactor finds himself dealing with park administration, but here I was, sorting out some permits for future filming I’m hoping to do around the park. You see, I’ve got this idea for a short film about the history of the falls, maybe even weaving in some tales of the indigenous people who first lived here. It’s still in the early stages, but getting the necessary permissions is always the first hurdle. The staff were incredibly helpful, and I even managed to practice my Spanish a bit, which, let’s be honest, needs all the practice it can get! I really want to get this film off the ground; imagine Oliver seeing something his dad created about this magical place. That thought alone keeps me motivated.

After the morning’s administrative duties, it was time for breakfast. La Mafia Tratoria was the spot, and it didn't disappoint. I’m a sucker for Italian food, and this place had a unique charm, with its themed decor and promise of traditional recipes. I opted for a classic carbonara, and it was absolutely spot on – creamy, rich, and just what I needed to fuel up for the day. Emily would have loved this place; she always appreciates a good pasta dish. I made a mental note to bring her here someday.

The falls by moonlight are an experience that transcends mere sightseeing; it's a communion with nature in its most ethereal form.
Lunch took us to Restaurante Porto Canoas, located right inside the national park. The location was unbeatable, offering stunning views of the Iguazu River and the falls themselves. The buffet was extensive, featuring a variety of Brazilian dishes, salads, and desserts. I tried a bit of everything, from the grilled meats to the fresh salads, all while soaking in the breathtaking scenery. It’s one thing to see the falls from a distance, but to dine with that view is an entirely different experience. I could easily spend hours just sitting there, watching the water cascade down.

As evening approached, we geared up for the main event: Paseos de Luna Llena en las Cataratas del Iguazú – the full moon walk at the falls. This was something I’d been particularly looking forward to, and it exceeded all expectations. The park takes on an entirely different atmosphere at night, with the sounds of the jungle coming alive and the moonlight casting an ethereal glow over everything. Walking along the paths, with the roar of the falls in the background and the moon as my guide, was an almost spiritual experience. The Garganta del Diablo, usually a thunderous spectacle, was transformed into a silver cascade, its power softened by the moonlight. It’s a view that’s hard to describe; you simply have to see it to believe it.

After the moonlit walk, we headed to Rafain Churrascaria Show for dinner. I'd heard great things about the Latin American dance show and the food, and it was the perfect way to end such a magical day. The churrascaria offered a massive buffet with seemingly endless options, including grilled meats, salads, and international cuisine. The dance show was a vibrant display of Latin American culture, with performers showcasing dances from various countries in colourful costumes. It was energetic and engaging, and I found myself tapping my feet along to the music. The combination of great food and entertainment made for a memorable evening.

Before heading back to camp, we made a pit stop at Yvagá Rooftop Bar. Situated in Puerto Iguazú, this bar offered panoramic views of the city and the surrounding landscapes. Sipping on a local cocktail while enjoying the cool night air was the perfect way to wind down after a long day. The bar had a lively atmosphere, with music and friendly staff, making it a great spot to relax and mingle. I even struck up a conversation with a couple from Argentina, who were also visiting the falls. It’s always interesting to meet fellow travellers and share stories.

Reflecting on the day, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the experiences I’d had. From navigating administrative tasks to witnessing the awe-inspiring beauty of Iguazu Falls under the moonlight, it was a day filled with wonder and enchantment. And to think, tomorrow we're off to explore Yryapu turismo guaraní and take a ride on the Bus turístico Iguazú! I am keen to see what those experiences bring. Days like these remind me why I love to travel and explore, and I can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings. I am also going to make sure I remember to pack the sunscreen!
