A Day of Art, Flavors, and Vietnamese Charm
Today in Hoi An was a delightful blend of art, culture, and culinary exploration. It's amazing how much this town has to offer, and I'm so glad I got to experience a variety of its treasures. From the serene Hoi An sculpture promenade to the vibrant flavors of local cuisine, every moment was a treat.
Our day began with a leisurely breakfast at Flower Restaurant. The ambiance was lovely, adorned with floral decor and soft lighting. It was the perfect way to start the day. I enjoyed a traditional Vietnamese coffee while the family indulged in some delicious Pho. It’s fascinating how a simple cup of coffee can taste so different, so much richer, when you're surrounded by the sounds and smells of a new place. Hans even tried to order in Vietnamese, a valiant effort that earned us smiles and a bit of good-natured laughter from the staff.

After breakfast, we strolled along the Hoi An sculpture promenade. The sculptures were fascinating. The kids were intrigued by the various shapes and forms. It was a wonderful way to soak in the local art scene and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere by the river. The promenade itself is a lovely place for a walk, offering beautiful views of the town. I found myself particularly drawn to a sculpture made of stone, its rough edges softened by the morning light. It reminded me of the ancient ruins back in Teruel, each stone whispering stories of the past.

Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.
Next on our itinerary was the Rehahn Gallery. I was eager to see the works of this renowned photographer, especially his portraits of the ethnic people of Vietnam. The gallery was a visual feast, showcasing the rich cultural tapestry of Vietnam. Sofia was particularly captivated by the vibrant colors and the stories behind each photograph. I was moved by the way Réhahn captured the essence of his subjects, conveying their dignity and resilience. As a historian, I appreciate the importance of preserving cultural heritage, and Réhahn's work is a powerful testament to that mission.

For lunch, we decided to try Lim Dining Room, an Italian restaurant housed in a heritage wooden house. It seemed like an interesting contrast to the Vietnamese cuisine we had been enjoying, and I was curious to see how they would blend Italian flavors with local ingredients. The restaurant was charming, with a cozy and elegant atmosphere. We ordered a variety of dishes, from pasta to pizza, and everything was delicious. It was a nice change of pace, and the kids were thrilled to have some familiar comfort food. Hans, of course, couldn't resist trying the local beer, while I savored a glass of Italian wine.

After lunch, it was time for some souvenir shopping. We headed to Artbook Souvenirs, a shop known for its high-quality and original items. I was looking for something unique to remember our trip by, and Artbook did not disappoint. The shop was filled with ceramics, textiles, and other handcrafted goods. I ended up buying a beautiful silk scarf and a few small lacquerware bowls. Sofia picked out some colorful postcards, while Hans found a quirky magnet for his collection. It’s these little mementos that bring back a flood of memories long after the trip is over.

As the day drew to a close, we decided to have dinner at Tin Tin Restaurant-Bar. The restaurant had a cozy atmosphere and a diverse menu with plenty of vegetarian options. We ordered a variety of dishes, including local noodle specialties and fresh spring rolls. The food was delicious, and the portions were generous. The staff were friendly and spoke English well, which made ordering easy. I particularly enjoyed the chili lemongrass duck, while Hans raved about the local beer selection. Sofia, ever the adventurous eater, surprised us all by trying and enjoying a bite of everything.

Looking ahead to tomorrow, we plan to explore the Thu Bon River with a boat trip and experience the magic of the Old Town Lantern boat. We'll start the day with breakfast at Hoi An Riverside Restaurant, followed by lunch at CHÂU Kitchen & Bar. In the evening, we'll dine at Circle Restaurant and then unwind at Soul Kitchen bar. I’m particularly excited about the lantern boat ride; I’ve heard it’s an unforgettable experience, and I can’t wait to see the river illuminated with colorful lanterns.
Today was a reminder of why I love to travel: the joy of discovering new cultures, the pleasure of savoring new flavors, and the satisfaction of creating lasting memories with my family. Hoi An has truly captured my heart, and I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings.
