More about Carmen Fernandez

Born and raised in the small Spanish city of Teruel, Carmen always had a passion for history and travel. After completing her studies in Library Science at the University of Salamanca, she met her husband, Hans, during a study abroad program. Drawn to his kind nature and shared love for exploration, she eventually moved to Germany and settled in the vibrant city of Bonn. While her primary job is managing historical archives at the local library, her love for discovering new places and sharing her experiences led her to start a travel blog on Evendo as a hobby.

This Explorers Travel Highlights

  • My Travel Highlight

One of my most cherished travel experiences was exploring the historical archives of a small, family-run library in Florence. Discovering original letters from the Renaissance period and piecing together the stories of the people who wrote them felt like stepping back in time. The musty smell of aged paper, the delicate script, and the weight of history in my hands created an unforgettable connection to the past.

  • Favourite Destination

Barcelona, without a doubt. The city's vibrant blend of history, art, and cuisine completely captivated me. From wandering through the Gothic Quarter to marveling at Gaudí's architectural wonders and indulging in delicious tapas, every moment was a feast for the senses. The warmth of the people and the lively atmosphere made it an experience I'll always treasure.

  • Best Hotel

Mandarin Oriental in Bangkok. The service was impeccable, the rooms luxurious, and the views of the Chao Phraya River were stunning. It was an oasis of calm amidst the bustling city, and every detail was carefully curated to ensure a memorable stay.

  • My Adventurous Destination

Ecuador. Hiking up the Kodapaxi volcano was both physically and mentally challenging, but it was one of the most rewarding adventures I've ever undertaken. The views from the summit were simply breathtaking, and the sense of accomplishment was immense.

  • My Food Destination

San Sebastián, Spain. The pintxos scene there is incredible. Hopping from bar to bar, sampling the local delicacies, and soaking in the Basque culture was an absolute delight. Each bite was an explosion of flavor, and the quality of the ingredients was exceptional.
