Day 10: A Day of Exploration and Culinary Delights in Cusco
Immerse yourself in Cusco's rich history and vibrant culture with visits to ancient sites and delightful dining experiences.
Ancient Echoes and Modern Tastes
Today was a day of contrasts, a blend of ancient history and the vibrant modern culture of Cusco. It was a day filled with exploration, reflection, and, of course, delightful culinary experiences. I set out with a sense of anticipation, eager to delve deeper into the heart of this fascinating city.
My day began with a hearty breakfast at Sumaq II Cusco. I fueled up with some local specialties, preparing myself for a day of walking and exploration. The breakfast was delicious, setting a positive tone for the adventures that lay ahead.
First on the agenda was a visit to the Mirador Sucso Aucaylle. The morning air was crisp and invigorating as I made my way to the viewpoint. The climb was a bit of a challenge, but the panoramic views that awaited me at the top were more than worth the effort. From this vantage point, Cusco unfolded beneath me, a tapestry of red-tiled roofs and winding streets nestled amidst the rolling Andean hills. The sheer scale of the landscape was breathtaking, and I spent a good while simply soaking it all in. It was a perfect spot for quiet contemplation, a moment to appreciate the grandeur of nature and the rich history that permeates this land.

Sometimes, the most profound experiences are found in the quiet moments of observation and reflection.
Next, I ventured to the Centro Arqueológico Qotakalle. This archaeological site offered a fascinating glimpse into Cusco's pre-Inca past. Wandering through the ruins, I couldn't help but marvel at the ingenuity and skill of the people who had built this ancient settlement. The stonework was impressive, a testament to their enduring legacy. As I explored the site, I imagined what life must have been like centuries ago, the daily routines and rituals of a civilization long gone. It was a humbling experience, a reminder of the ever-present flow of time and the enduring power of human creativity.

For lunch, I headed to Artisano Regocijo Restaurant. Located in the vibrant Plaza Regocijo, the restaurant is housed in what was once the Casa de la Moneda during colonial times. The restaurant had a cool atmosphere, and the staff were very friendly. I decided to try the alpaca steak and it was delicious!

After lunch, I took some time to wander through the streets of Cusco, soaking in the atmosphere and observing the daily life of the city. The vibrant colors of the buildings, the bustling markets, and the lively street performers all contributed to the city's unique charm. I found myself drawn to the Plaza de Armas, the heart of Cusco, where I watched as locals and tourists alike mingled and enjoyed the afternoon sun. There was a palpable sense of energy and excitement in the air, a feeling of being at the center of something special.
As evening approached, I made my way to KUSYKAY Peruvian Craft Food for dinner. This restaurant had been recommended to me by several locals, and I was eager to try it out. The restaurant was cozy and inviting, with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. I ordered the vegetable ceviche, it was delicious. The service was impeccable, the staff being attentive and friendly.

To cap off the evening, I decided to check out Cholos Brewpub. I am not usually a big drinker, but I decided to try one of the local craft beers. The atmosphere was lively and convivial, and I enjoyed chatting with some of the other patrons, sharing stories and experiences from our travels.

Today was a reminder of why I love to travel, the joy of discovery, the thrill of exploration, and the opportunity to connect with new cultures and people. As I reflect on the day's adventures, I am filled with a sense of gratitude and excitement for what tomorrow may bring. Tomorrow, I plan to visit San Blas Waterfall and caves, and Machu Andén. I am looking forward to more exploring!
I am really enjoying my solo journey, but I do miss Mei and Wei. I am planning our next family trip to the Swiss Alps when I return to Zurich.
Before heading back to my accommodation, I took a moment to jot down some notes in my travel journal, capturing the essence of the day's experiences. I find that writing helps me to process my thoughts and emotions, to make sense of the world around me. It's a way of preserving memories, of ensuring that these moments will stay with me long after I've left Cusco.
As I walked back to my accommodation, I couldn't help but feel a sense of contentment and gratitude. Cusco had welcomed me with open arms, offering a glimpse into its rich history, vibrant culture, and stunning natural beauty. I knew that this was a place I would never forget, a place that would forever hold a special place in my heart.
I'm also grateful I didn't forget my camera today! I was able to capture so many incredible images. However, I still wish I had brought an extra battery pack, as I'm always paranoid about running out of battery. I should really remember to pack a portable phone charger as well.
Tomorrow promises even more exploration as I plan to visit the San Blas Waterfall and caves, followed by Machu Andén. It's exciting to think about the new adventures that await. The journey continues, and I am ready to embrace it with open arms.
