A Day of Discovery in Humahuaca
Today was all about embracing the heart and soul of Humahuaca. From exploring its historical landmarks to indulging in the local cuisine, every moment was a vibrant immersion into the culture of this Argentine gem. It’s amazing how much you can experience in a single day when you set out with an open mind and a willingness to explore.
Our day began with a hearty breakfast at Restaurant Humahuaca. It was the perfect way to fuel up for the adventures ahead. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the air, mingling with the tempting scents of local pastries. I opted for a traditional Argentine breakfast – medialunas (sweet croissants) with dulce de leche, and a strong café con leche. It was simple, yet incredibly satisfying, and just what I needed to kickstart the day with energy.

After breakfast, we made our way to the iconic Cartel Humahuaca. Of course, a mandatory photo stop was essential! It's hard to miss, with the words 'Humahuaca' emblazoned in large, colorful letters, serving as a warm welcome to all who visit. Snapping a photo here is practically a rite of passage, and I happily joined in, capturing the moment with my trusty camera. The vibrant backdrop made for a perfect photo opportunity, and it was fun to see other travelers doing the same, all eager to document their arrival in this special place.

Next on our list was the Amphitheatre, a geological wonder just a short drive from Humahuaca. The Amphitheatre is not man-made but a natural formation of towering cliffs that create a stunning, open-air space. The sheer scale of the place is breathtaking, and the acoustics are incredible. I even tried singing a few lines of a song, and the sound resonated beautifully within the natural walls. It’s easy to see why this spot is so popular – it’s a true testament to the power and artistry of nature.

The beauty of travel lies not just in seeing new places, but in experiencing them fully, engaging with the local culture, and letting it leave a lasting imprint on your soul.
After soaking in the natural beauty of the Amphitheatre, it was time for some retail therapy at ARTESANIAS SASAKUY. I am always on the lookout for unique, locally made souvenirs, and this place did not disappoint. The shop was filled with colorful textiles, intricate ceramics, and handcrafted jewelry. I ended up buying a beautiful hand-woven scarf made from llama wool, the perfect way to remember my time in Humahuaca and something to keep me warm back in Berlin. The owner of the shop was incredibly friendly, sharing stories about the artisans and the traditions behind each piece. It's interactions like these that make travel so special, connecting with people and learning about their craft.

Lunch was at La Casona, a restaurant known for its traditional Argentine cuisine. The ambiance was cozy and inviting, with rustic décor and a warm fireplace. I decided to try the locro, a hearty stew made with beans, corn, and meat – a regional specialty. It was rich, flavorful, and incredibly satisfying, the perfect comfort food for a chilly afternoon. I paired it with a glass of local red wine, enhancing the flavors of the dish.

As the day drew to a close, we headed to Restaurant El Fortín for dinner. This place came highly recommended for its authentic regional dishes and lively atmosphere. As soon as we stepped inside, we were greeted by the sounds of live folk music and the aroma of sizzling meats. The restaurant was buzzing with locals and tourists alike, all eager to enjoy a taste of Argentine hospitality. I ordered the cazuela de llama, a slow-cooked llama stew, and it was absolutely divine. The meat was tender and flavorful, and the spices were perfectly balanced. The service was excellent, and the staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome.

Before heading back to our guesthouse, we took a leisurely stroll through the town square, soaking in the atmosphere of Humahuaca at night. The air was crisp and cool, and the stars were shining brightly overhead. It was a peaceful and serene end to a day filled with exploration and discovery.
Reflecting on the day, I realized how much Humahuaca had to offer. From its stunning natural landscapes to its vibrant culture and delicious cuisine, it was a feast for the senses. I am so grateful for the opportunity to experience this special place and to connect with its people.
Tomorrow marks the final day of our adventure in Quebrada de Humahuaca. We plan to visit the Cartel de bienvenida a Humahuaca for one last photo opportunity and explore the Plaza de Uquia, soaking in the local atmosphere before we head back to Berlin. We'll have breakfast at Aisito, lunch at La Puerta Verde Hostel & Bar, and a farewell dinner at La Tuna Restaurante. If we have time, we might even check out K'Bar Classic for a final taste of Argentine nightlife. It’s bittersweet to think that our trip is coming to an end, but I know that the memories and experiences will stay with me long after I leave.
I’m looking forward to sharing more stories and photos from my travels. Until next time, happy travels!
P.S. I really need to remember to buy a power adapter when I get back to Berlin. My phone almost died today!
