After a smooth flight from Dublin, Aoife, Liam, and I have finally arrived in Florence! The anticipation has been building for months, and stepping onto Italian soil, I could already feel the pulse of history and art that defines this city. The crisp January air was a welcome change, and the promise of exploring Renaissance masterpieces with my family filled me with excitement. This trip is not just a vacation; it's a chance to immerse ourselves in a culture that has shaped the world of art and antiques, a world that has been my passion for decades.

Our first stop, after settling into the Relais Grand Tour, was the magnificent Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. The sheer scale of the Duomo is breathtaking. Even though I’ve seen countless pictures, nothing prepares you for standing at its base, craning your neck to take in Brunelleschi's incredible dome. Our final stop of the day was the iconic Ponte Vecchio. This medieval bridge, lined with shops, is a unique sight. Executive Chef Paolo Lavezzini aroused our curiosity with contemporary dishes filled with playful surprises, tinting our senses with flavors, perfumes and consistencies. We enjoyed a wonderful evening, savoring Tuscan ingredients served with sophistication. The atmosphere was perfect for a family dinner, and the food was simply divine. I must admit, the lamb was perfectly cooked, and the sweetbreads added a nice dimension to the dish. It was the perfect end to a perfect day.

But for now, it's time to rest and recharge for another day of Florentine adventures.
