Chasing the Blues and Tasting the Island
Today was a day of embracing both the natural wonders and the unique flavors of Ishigaki Island. From exploring a mesmerizing Blue Cave to savoring local delicacies and indulging in artisanal chocolates, it was a sensory feast that left me with a deeper appreciation for this island paradise.
The day started with an early breakfast at Yaeyama katosoba. I was eager to try their famous soba, and it did not disappoint!. The broth was rich and flavorful, and the noodles had the perfect chewy texture. It was a hearty and satisfying way to kick off a day of exploration. Fuelled up, I and my friends headed towards our first adventure: the Blue Cave.

The drive to the northern part of the island was scenic, with lush greenery on both sides of the road. As we approached the coast, the turquoise waters beckoned, promising an unforgettable experience. We met our guide, Yuki, who was incredibly enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the local marine life. He provided us with snorkeling gear and a wetsuit, ensuring we were comfortable and safe for our underwater adventure.
As we swam into the cave, the water transformed into a mesmerizing shade of blue. The sunlight filtered through the entrance, creating an ethereal glow that illuminated the cave's interior. Schools of colorful fish darted around us, adding to the surreal atmosphere. Yuki pointed out various coral formations and explained the unique ecosystem within the cave. It was truly a magical experience, and I felt like I was swimming in an underwater paradise.
The beauty of Ishigaki lies not only in its stunning landscapes but also in its ability to offer unique and unforgettable experiences.
After our aquatic adventure, we were ready for lunch. We decided to try Ishigaki Island Village, a local spot known for its traditional Okinawan cuisine. The village had a charming, rustic atmosphere, with various food stalls offering a range of local delicacies. I opted for a set meal that included *goya champuru* (bitter melon stir-fry), *rafute* (braised pork belly), and *umibudo* (sea grapes). Each dish was bursting with flavor, and I savored every bite, feeling a connection to the island's culinary heritage.

With our bellies full and our spirits high, we decided to indulge in some retail therapy. Our destination was CACAO MARKET by MarieBelle Ishigaki, a chocolate shop that I had heard so much about. As a translator, I appreciate the nuances of language and culture, and the name itself intrigued me, blending the exotic allure of cacao with the local touch of Ishigaki. As we stepped inside, we were greeted by the aroma of rich, decadent chocolate. The shop was beautifully decorated, resembling a cozy library with an upstairs area for relaxing.

The selection of chocolates was impressive, ranging from classic flavors to unique local creations. I couldn't resist trying the Ishigaki Sea Salt chocolate, which had a perfect balance of sweet and savory. We also sampled some of their artisanal ice cream, which was incredibly creamy and flavorful. It was a chocolate lover's paradise, and I left with a bag full of goodies to enjoy later.
Our final stop for the day was Hideki Ranch, nestled in the tranquil Kabira area. The ranch offered a serene escape into the Japanese countryside, with lush green fields and rolling hills stretching as far as the eye could see. It was a welcome change of pace after our busy morning. We strolled through the ranch, admiring the picturesque scenery and interacting with the friendly animals. The air was fresh and clean, and I felt a sense of peace and tranquility wash over me.

As evening approached, we made our way to Coral terrace Ishigakijima Restaurant Plumeria for dinner. The restaurant had a sophisticated yet relaxed ambiance, with stunning views of the ocean. The menu featured a fusion of Okinawan and international cuisine, with an emphasis on fresh, local ingredients. I opted for the grilled fish, which was cooked to perfection and served with a medley of seasonal vegetables. The flavors were exquisite, and the presentation was impeccable.

The Southern Island Star Festival is still ongoing, and I am hoping to get a glimpse of the stars one of these evenings.
Tomorrow, we plan to visit the Maesedake Observation Deck and the Furusutobaru Ruins. I am looking forward to exploring more of Ishigaki's natural and historical treasures, and I can't wait to share my experiences with you all.
What I am learning is that Ishigaki Island is a blend of adventure and relaxation, natural beauty and culinary delights. It's a place where you can explore hidden caves, savor local cuisine, and indulge in artisanal chocolates. And I am happy to be sharing it with my friends.
I think I will check out the Tropics Lounge & Bar tomorrow night, and maybe enjoy a cocktail or two. It will be a perfect way to unwind after another day of exploration.
