Born in Bamyan, Afghanistan, Fatima experienced a childhood steeped in rich cultural traditions. Her family, though not wealthy, valued education and community. The ongoing conflicts in Afghanistan led her family to seek refuge in Germany when she was in her early twenties. Adjusting to a new country was challenging, but Fatima embraced the opportunity to learn German and integrate into German society. She met her husband, Hans, while volunteering at a local community center. They share a love for travel and exploring different cultures. Fatima now works as a cultural event coordinator, where she organizes events that celebrate diversity and promote intercultural understanding.

During our stay in Kyoto, Japan, we stayed at a traditional Ryokan called Tawaraya. The impeccable service, serene atmosphere, exquisite Kaiseki dinners, and the opportunity to sleep on futons in a tatami-mat room provided an authentic and immersive cultural experience.
