Today, David and I immersed ourselves in the heart of Arrábida Natural Park, discovering its hidden treasures and savoring the local flavors. It was a day filled with history, stunning views, and delicious food, making it a perfect blend of exploration and relaxation.

Our day began with a hearty breakfast at Restaurante Retiro do Campo. It was a charming, rustic place that promised an authentic start to our explorations. The fresh bread, local cheese, and strong coffee fueled us for the adventures ahead. It's these simple, local experiences that I cherish most, reminding me of the importance of slowing down and appreciating the small joys in life. After all, travel isn't just about seeing new places; it's about connecting with the local culture and savoring every moment.

With our bellies full and spirits high, we set off to explore the Mourisca Tide Mill. The mill is located in the Sado Estuary Nature Reserve, amidst salt pans and marshes. The Mourisca Tide Mill dates back to the 17th century and was still in operation until the 1950s. It was fascinating to imagine the millers of centuries past harnessing the power of the tides to grind grain. The area surrounding the mill was equally captivating. The Sado Estuary is a haven for birdwatchers, and we spotted various species wading through the shallow waters. The old salt pans added a unique charm to the landscape, a reminder of the region's rich history of salt production.

Next on our itinerary was Miradouro Cabeço do Melão. The viewpoint is located in Quinta do Conde and offers panoramic views of the Arrábida mountains. The drive up was scenic, with winding roads and glimpses of the coastline. As we reached the top, we were rewarded with breathtaking vistas of rolling hills, lush greenery, and the sparkling Atlantic Ocean. The viewpoint itself is a modern structure, designed to blend in with the natural surroundings. We spent a good hour soaking in the scenery, taking photos, and simply enjoying the tranquility. It was a perfect spot for reflection, away from the hustle and bustle of city life. We even saw a couple enjoying a picnic, which seemed like a wonderful idea for a future visit.

For lunch, we headed to Ondagalapos, a restaurant near Galapinhos Beach. The restaurant has a loyal clientele and has been run by Paulo Ribeiro for over 30 years. The location was stunning, with views of the beach and the turquoise waters. I decided to try the grilled fish, while David opted for the seafood rice. Both dishes were delicious, showcasing the fresh flavors of the region. What made the experience even more special was the friendly service and the laid-back atmosphere. It felt like we were dining with locals, sharing stories and laughter. I couldn't help but think about how much I value these authentic, unscripted moments when I travel.

As the day drew to a close, we made our way to Sesimbra for dinner at O Zagaia. The restaurant is known for its modern take on Mediterranean and Portuguese cuisine. The octopus and cuttlefish were particularly delicious. The service was impeccable, and the atmosphere was cozy and inviting. The restaurant had a romantic ambiance, which made our dinner feel extra special. We savored every bite, reminiscing about the day's adventures and planning for tomorrow's explorations. I also love how they combined the modern bits with the traditional bits. It really was excellent.

To cap off the evening, we decided to check out Fun Friends n’ Fandango, a local bar known for its lively atmosphere. It was the perfect spot to unwind after a day of exploring. The drinks were well-crafted, and the music was upbeat. We chatted with some locals, shared travel stories, and simply enjoyed the vibrant energy of the place. I even tried to learn a few Portuguese phrases, much to the amusement of the bartenders. It was a fun and memorable way to end our day in Arrábida.

As I reflect on today's experiences, I am filled with gratitude for the opportunity to explore this beautiful region with David. From the historic Mourisca Tide Mill to the breathtaking Miradouro Cabeço do Melão, every moment was a reminder of the natural beauty and rich culture that Arrábida has to offer. And, of course, the delicious food and lively atmosphere added an extra layer of enjoyment to our day.

Tomorrow, we plan to explore Alto do Jaspe and the Interpretive Area Little Lagoon. I'm excited to see what other hidden gems Arrábida has in store for us. Until then, boa noite from Portugal!
