Adios, Sevilla!

As our final day in Seville drew to a close, a bittersweet feeling settled over me. This trip, a delightful escape from our routine in Bonn, has been nothing short of magical. Seville, with its sun-kissed streets and vibrant culture, has truly captured my heart. I am so excited to relay all of my experiences to you.

Our last morning began with a delightful breakfast at El Pasaje Santa María la Blanca. The atmosphere was buzzing with locals and tourists alike, all eager to start their day with traditional Andalusian fare. Maximilian and I shared some tostadas con tomate and café con leche, reminiscing about our favorite moments from the past week. It felt like just yesterday we were arriving from Bonn, ready to dive into the heart of Seville. Now, with our departure looming, every moment felt precious.

After breakfast, we decided to venture a bit outside the city to explore the Parque Arqueológico de Carmona. The drive itself was scenic, with rolling hills and olive groves stretching as far as the eye could see. As a software developer, I often find myself immersed in the digital world, so these moments of natural beauty are especially rejuvenating.

The archaeological park was fascinating. Carmona, one of the oldest cities in Andalusia, boasts a rich history dating back to the Phoenicians. Walking through the ruins, I couldn't help but imagine what life must have been like here centuries ago. The well-preserved Roman necropolis was particularly impressive, with its intricate tombs and burial chambers. It was a bit chilly, I was glad I brought my jacket.

Maximilian, ever the data scientist, was intrigued by the site's layout and the engineering feats of the ancient Romans. He spent a good amount of time examining the remains of the amphitheater, marveling at its design and acoustics. I enjoyed wandering through the site, camera in hand, capturing the textures and colors of the ancient stones. I think photography is a great way to capture memories, don't you?

After our historical excursion, we returned to Seville and headed straight for the Murillo Gardens. Named after the famous Sevillian painter Bartolomé Esteban Murillo, these gardens offered a tranquil escape from the bustling city streets. The gardens were designed by Juan Talavera y Heredia, and they presented a composition based on grid paths formed by hedges and pavements that create octagonal traffic circles in which central fountains and tile-covered benches are arranged.

The gardens were a lush oasis of greenery, with orange trees, magnolias, and vibrant flowerbeds creating a sensory feast. We strolled along the winding paths, admiring the fountains and tile-covered benches. The atmosphere was serene, and it was lovely to see locals and tourists alike enjoying the peaceful surroundings.

As we wandered deeper into the gardens, we stumbled upon the Plaza de Refinadores, presided over by a statue dedicated to Don Juan Tenorio. I remember reading the play in University! The soft afternoon light filtering through the trees created a magical ambiance, and I felt a sense of calm wash over me. It was the perfect spot to reflect on our time in Seville.

The beauty of a place is not just in its sights, but in the way it makes you feel.

Next on our itinerary was the Palacio de San Telmo, a stunning example of Baroque architecture. Originally built as a school for navigators in the 17th century, the palace has served many purposes over the years. Today, it stands as the official residence of the president of Andalusia. The Palacio de San Telmo was built in 1682 as the seminary college of mareantes (navigators school). It was designed in an exuberant Spanish Baroque style by the celebrated local architect Leonardo de Figueroa with help from his son Antonio Matias. The palace is named after St. Telmo, the patron saint of sailors.

The palace's facade is adorned with intricate carvings and sculptures, showcasing the city's rich artistic heritage. I was particularly impressed by the richly ornamented Baroque portal, which is considered one of the most conspicuous parts of the palace. The statues of illustrious figures from Seville's history added to the palace's grandeur.

After admiring the Palacio de San Telmo, we decided to indulge in some retail therapy. We wandered through the streets of the city center, browsing the shops and soaking up the lively atmosphere. I picked up a few souvenirs for friends and family back in Germany, including some hand-painted ceramics and a bottle of local olive oil.

As evening approached, we made our way to Gallo Rojo. Factoría de Creación., a quirky bar known for its live music and craft beers. I had heard good things about it from other travelers, and I was eager to experience it for myself. The bar was tucked away on a side street and had a cool, bohemian vibe. The walls were adorned with colorful artwork, and the air was filled with the sounds of laughter and music.

We ordered a couple of local craft beers and settled in to enjoy the lively atmosphere. The bar had a friendly, welcoming vibe, and we struck up conversations with fellow travelers from all over the world. The live jazz music added to the ambiance, creating a perfect ending to our last night in Seville.

For dinner, we enjoyed a final taste of Seville at Restaurante El Pasaje Tapas. The restaurant was cozy and inviting, with a menu featuring a wide array of traditional tapas. We ordered a selection of dishes, including patatas bravas, gambas al ajillo, and jamón ibérico. Each bite was a burst of flavor, and I savored every moment.

As we savored the last of our tapas, Maximilian and I reflected on our incredible journey through Seville. From the awe-inspiring Alcázar to the charming streets of Santa Cruz, this city had captured our hearts. We had immersed ourselves in its rich history, indulged in its delicious cuisine, and embraced its vibrant culture.

Our hotel, Itaca Artemisa by Soho Boutique, had been the perfect home base for our adventures. Its central location and comfortable accommodations made it easy to explore the city and unwind after a long day of sightseeing.

While I am looking forward to returning to our familiar life in Bonn, I know that a piece of my heart will always remain in Seville. The warmth of the Andalusian sun, the flavors of its cuisine, and the kindness of its people will stay with me long after we've left. I hope to return someday and continue exploring this enchanting city.
