Day 9: A Day of Serenity and Flavors in Chapada dos Veadeiros
Discover the hidden gems of Chapada dos Veadeiros with me! From Raizama's waters to Loquinhas' views and the town's culinary delights.
Finding Peace and Delicious Bites in Chapada
Today was a beautiful blend of nature's tranquility and the vibrant flavors of local cuisine. Chapada dos Veadeiros continues to surprise me with its hidden gems, and I’m so excited to share my experiences. It's amazing how a day filled with serene landscapes and delicious food can rejuvenate the soul.
Our day started with a hearty breakfast at Restaurante Buritis in São Jorge. I opted for the *buffet de massas*, a recommendation I had seen online. It was a delightful experience, choosing my ingredients and watching the chef prepare my plate right in front of me. It felt like a 'Spoleto da Chapada dos Veadeiros' as someone online wrote. Fueled up, we were ready to explore! The restaurant had a very familiar vibe, reminding me of the small Kenyan restaurants back home where community and good food are always at the heart of the experience.

Our first stop was Cachoeira Raizama, a place I had initially underestimated based on some photos I’d seen. But Corona Beer invited me to visit this waterfall in Chapada dos Veadeiros that is one of the most traditional, and I did not think twice and came! Best decision ever! The trail to Raizama was surprisingly easy, a gentle descent leading to a series of beautiful spots. The landscape was adorned with Cerrado flowers, making the walk even more enjoyable. The sun was warm, with temperatures averaging between 63°F (17°C) and 91°F (33°C), perfect for a day of exploration.

The beauty of nature lies in its ability to offer solace and inspiration, reminding us of the simple joys of life.
We followed the advice of a local guide, who led us to hidden pools and a small waterfall away from the more crowded areas. The water was so refreshing, especially after the short hike. I even found a spot where the water had carved sinuous marks into the rock, reminiscent of the Vale da Lua. It was like a natural spa, and I couldn't resist taking a dip. It was so serene, a perfect escape from the hustle of Amsterdam. I couldn't help but think how much Jan would have loved this place; he always appreciates a good swim.
Next on our itinerary was Mirante do Loquinhas. The views from the *mirante* were breathtaking, offering a panoramic vista of the Chapada. The trail to the viewpoint was well-maintained, making it accessible for everyone in our group. From the top, we could see the vast expanse of the park, with its plateaus and distant waterfalls. The breeze was gentle, carrying the scent of the local flora. I took several photos, trying to capture the essence of the landscape, but no picture could truly do it justice.

After a day of hiking and sightseeing, we were all craving some good food. For lunch, we headed to Zu's Bistro culinária italiana, a place recommended for its relaxing atmosphere and homemade Italian cuisine. I decided to try one of their signature risottos, and it was absolutely divine. The creamy texture and the blend of flavors were a treat to my taste buds. The bistro itself had a cozy and inviting ambiance, perfect for a leisurely meal with friends. I felt a sense of warmth and hospitality, something that always reminds me of home. It was a delightful experience, and I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Chapada.

As the sun began to set, we made our way to Dendê na Chapada (Acarajé) for a unique culinary experience. I had heard so much about *acarajé*, a traditional Bahian street food made from fried black-eyed peas. Dendê na Chapada offered a delicious version of this Afro-Brazilian specialty. The *acarajé* was perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, with a flavorful filling of *vatapá*, *caruru*, and shrimp. It was an explosion of flavors, a true taste of Bahia in the heart of Chapada. The place had a vibrant atmosphere, with friendly staff and a lively crowd. It was the perfect spot to unwind after a day of adventures.

For dinner, we decided to indulge in some Argentine and Uruguayan cuisine at La Parrilla. The restaurant was known for its grilled meats, prepared using traditional techniques. I ordered the *parrillada platter*, a selection of different cuts of beef, lamb, and pork. The meat was incredibly tender and flavorful, cooked to perfection over an open flame. The *chimichurri* sauce added a zesty kick, complementing the richness of the meat. The ambiance at La Parrilla was warm and inviting, with rustic decor and a lively atmosphere. It was a memorable dining experience, and I would definitely come back for more.

As the day came to an end, I couldn't help but reflect on the incredible experiences I had in Chapada dos Veadeiros. From the serene waters of Cachoeira Raizama to the panoramic views from Mirante do Loquinhas and the delicious flavors of the local cuisine, every moment was a treasure. I am grateful for the opportunity to explore this beautiful region and share my adventures with you all.
Tomorrow, we plan to visit Cachoeira do Rodeador and Mirante da Trilha dos Saltos. I’ve heard great things about these spots, and I’m excited to see what they have to offer. I’m also hoping to do some souvenir shopping at Kosmo das Artes. I’m on the lookout for unique, locally made crafts to bring back home to Amsterdam. I am particularly looking for a piece that will remind me of the vibrant colors and textures of Kenya, a fusion of my past and present.
Until then, *adeus* from Chapada dos Veadeiros!
