A Day of Discovery

Today was another day filled with the raw, untamed beauty of Chapada dos Veadeiros. Jan and I, along with our friends, set out early, eager to explore more of what this incredible national park has to offer. With each passing day, I feel more connected to this land, its vibrant energy seeping into my soul. The experiences we shared today were nothing short of magical, a testament to the wonders that await those who dare to venture off the beaten path.

Our day began with a hearty breakfast at Restaurante Buritis in São Jorge. As usual, the buffet was a delightful spread of local flavors. I opted for a generous serving of the *mineiro* cheese bread and some fresh fruit, while Jan went straight for the *pastel de queijo*. It’s quickly becoming our morning ritual, fueling us up for the day's adventures. The restaurant was bustling with other hikers and nature enthusiasts, all eager to start their day in the park.

With our stomachs full and spirits high, we made our way to Cachoeira do Rodeador. The drive itself was an experience, the landscape unfolding before us in all its glory. The dirt roads were a bit bumpy, but nothing our trusty bus couldn't handle. As we approached the trailhead, the anticipation was palpable. I remembered packing my essentials: my trusty camera, a reusable water bottle, and of course, sunscreen. However, I realized I had forgotten my insect repellent and sunhat, a rookie mistake in this climate!

The trail to Cachoeira do Rodeador was relatively short, about 700 meters, but it was incredibly scenic. The path wound through lush vegetation, the air thick with the scent of wildflowers and damp earth. As we hiked, we could hear the distant rush of the waterfall, a tantalizing preview of what awaited us. The anticipation grew with each step, my camera ready to capture the moment we laid eyes on the falls.

Finally, we arrived at Cachoeira do Rodeador, and it was even more beautiful than I had imagined. The waterfall cascaded down into a series of clear, inviting pools, surrounded by towering canyon walls. The water was refreshingly cool, perfect for a midday dip. I couldn't resist diving in, the shock of the cold water invigorating my senses. We spent a good hour swimming and basking in the sun, the sound of the waterfall a soothing backdrop to our laughter and chatter. After our refreshing swim, we decided to grab lunch at Zu's Bistro. The restaurant is known for its Italian cuisine, and after days of Brazilian food, we were craving something different. I ordered the *risotto de funghi*, while Jan opted for the *lasagna bolognese*. Both dishes were delicious, a comforting taste of home in the heart of Brazil. The owner, Zu, was incredibly welcoming, sharing stories of her travels through Italy and her love for Brazilian culture.

With our bellies full and our spirits lifted, we set off for our next destination: Mirante da Trilha dos Saltos. This viewpoint promised panoramic views of the park, and we were eager to see Chapada dos Veadeiros from a different perspective. The trail to the *mirante* was a bit more challenging than the one to Cachoeira do Rodeador, with some steep inclines and rocky terrain. But the views along the way were more than worth the effort. We passed through fields of golden grass, the wind rustling through the blades like whispers. We spotted several birds, their vibrant plumage a stark contrast to the muted tones of the landscape.

As we neared the *mirante*, the landscape opened up before us, revealing a breathtaking vista of rolling hills, deep valleys, and distant waterfalls. The view was simply stunning, a reminder of the vastness and beauty of nature. I spent a long time taking photos, trying to capture the essence of this incredible place. But no photo could truly do it justice; it was something you had to experience firsthand. I felt a sense of awe and gratitude, thankful for the opportunity to witness such natural beauty.

After soaking in the views, we decided to do a little shopping at Kosmo das Artes. I was looking for a unique souvenir to remind me of our trip. The shop was filled with handcrafted items, from jewelry and pottery to paintings and sculptures. I ended up buying a beautiful hand-painted bowl, its vibrant colors reminiscent of the sunsets we'd been seeing in Chapada dos Veadeiros. I also picked up a small wooden carving of a *tucano*, a bird we'd spotted earlier in the day.

As the sun began to set, we made our way to La Parrilla for dinner. This Argentinian restaurant was highly recommended, and we were excited to try it. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, the aroma of grilled meat filling the air. I ordered the *parrillada*, a mixed grill of various cuts of meat, while Jan chose the *ojo de bife*, a juicy ribeye steak. The meat was cooked to perfection, tender and flavorful. We savored every bite, accompanied by a bottle of Argentinian Malbec. It was the perfect end to a perfect day.

Tonight, as I sit here writing in our tent, I can't help but feel a sense of contentment. Today was a day of discovery, a day of connection, a day of pure joy. I'm already excited for what tomorrow will bring, as we plan to explore Cachoeira do Segredo and Trilha da Cachoeira do Segredo.
