Our day began with a hearty breakfast at Restaurante Buritis in São Jorge. I opted for a customized pasta dish, choosing my favorite ingredients to fuel up for the day’s adventure. It reminded me of the fresh, vibrant flavors I often try to recreate in my Amsterdam kitchen, blending Dutch ingredients with Kenyan spices. After breakfast, we packed our essentials and set off towards the trailhead.

The drive to Cachoeira do Segredo from São Jorge was quite scenic. As we drove, Jan and I reminisced about our cycling trips through the Dutch countryside, where windmills and tulip fields create a different kind of natural beauty. The landscape here, however, was much more rugged and wild, with the characteristic cerrado vegetation stretching as far as the eye could see.

Reaching the trailhead, we parked our car and prepared for the 7-kilometer hike. The trail to Trilha da Cachoeira do Segredo is an experience in itself. It meanders alongside the river, taking you deeper into the heart of the Chapada. The path was mostly shaded, which was a welcome relief from the Brazilian sun, even though it's August, nearing the end of the dry season.

As the day drew to a close, we began our hike back to the trailhead. The return journey was just as enjoyable, with the golden light of the late afternoon casting a magical glow on the landscape. We took our time, savoring every moment and reflecting on the beauty of Cachoeira do Segredo.

Back in Alto Paraíso de Goiás, we decided to treat ourselves to a delicious Italian dinner at Zu's Bistro. The cozy atmosphere and the aroma of freshly made pasta were incredibly inviting. I ordered a flavorful risotto, while my friends opted for various pasta dishes. The meal was a delightful end to a day filled with adventure and natural beauty.

Before heading back to our campsite, we made a quick stop at La Parrilla for a late dinner. Known for its authentic Uruguayan cuisine, the restaurant offered a variety of grilled meats that were expertly prepared. I indulged in a tender cut of beef, savoring the rich flavors and the warm, welcoming atmosphere.

As I reflect on today's adventure, I am filled with gratitude for the opportunity to experience the natural wonders of Chapada dos Veadeiros. Cachoeira do Segredo is a truly special place, offering a perfect blend of adventure, tranquility, and natural beauty. It’s a reminder of the importance of connecting with nature and cherishing the moments we share with friends.

Tomorrow, we plan to visit Cachoeira do Macacão and Cachoeiras do Caracol, two more of Chapada's stunning waterfalls. I’m excited to see what new adventures and breathtaking landscapes await us. I'm also hoping to find some time to visit ARTESAMUNDO, a local shop, to pick up some souvenirs that capture the essence of this incredible place.
