Volos Beckons
Today was a day of simple pleasures and delightful discoveries in Volos. It’s amazing how a change of scenery can bring a fresh perspective, and today, Pelion offered just that. From tranquil parks to historical landmarks and exquisite local cuisine, every moment was a treat. And the best part? Sharing it all with Jihad and Lina.
Our day began with a hearty breakfast at Agora 1955 in Portaria. The aroma of freshly baked pies and strong Greek coffee filled the air, instantly making me feel at home. I decided on a traditional spinach pie, while Jihad opted for a cheese-filled one, and Lina, of course, chose the sweet fried dough. The cozy atmosphere and friendly staff made it a perfect start to our day.
With our bellies full and spirits high, we drove towards Volos, eager to explore the city's attractions. Our first stop was Saint Konstantinos Park. As we strolled through the park, the vibrant greenery and tall trees provided a refreshing escape from the bustling city life. Lina was immediately captivated by the ducks swimming gracefully in the picturesque lake. We found a quiet bench and simply soaked in the tranquility, watching locals go about their day. It was a perfect spot for a family to relax and enjoy each other's company.

The park itself is quite expansive, offering ample space for picnics and recreational activities. I noticed some locals jogging and others simply enjoying a peaceful walk. Saint Konstantinos Park is a hub for community events and cultural activities. I made a mental note to check the local event calendar, as it would be wonderful to experience a festival or concert in such a beautiful setting.
Leaving the park, we made our way towards the heart of Volos to see the Clock Tower. The Clock Tower is near Saint Nicholas Cathedral, a significant landmark in the city. The architecture was striking, and I couldn't help but snap a few photos. Lina was fascinated by the large clock face, and Jihad shared some interesting facts about the tower's history.

Sometimes, the most memorable moments are found in the simplest of settings.
For lunch, we decided to try cardamo OINOMAGEIREIO in Makrinitsa. The restaurant boasts an extensive exterior balcony with spectacular views. The menu was excellent with plenty of choice and reflective of the regional cuisine. We had an entree of grilled halloumi with tomato confit. For the main course we had slow-cooked goat with lemon sauce. The house wine was remarkably good. The service was attentive and friendly.

As evening approached, we ventured out to experience Volos' nightlife. Our destination was the Red Nose Bar. The bar had a cozy atmosphere and a beautiful interior. I opted for one of their signature cocktails, while Jihad enjoyed a glass of local wine. The bar was lively, with music playing and people laughing and chatting. It was a perfect way to unwind after a day of exploring. Red Nose Bar is known for its unique cocktails and impressive collection of spirits. The bartenders are skilled and create drinks that are both visually appealing and delicious. The bar also has a restaurant called Don, which serves tasty dishes.

Before heading back to our guesthouse, we took a leisurely stroll along the waterfront. The city lights twinkled on the water, creating a magical ambiance. We held hands, enjoying the peacefulness of the night and reminiscing about the day's adventures. These are the moments I cherish the most – simple, heartfelt, and shared with my loved ones.
As I sit here, reflecting on our day in Volos, I can't help but feel grateful for this family adventure. Each day brings new experiences and strengthens our bond. Tomorrow, we plan to visit the Home of Alexandros Papadiamantis and Manolas. I'm excited to delve deeper into the local culture and history, and I know it will be another day filled with unforgettable memories.
Volos has a vibrant nightlife, and there are often events and concerts taking place. I noticed that Bloody Hawk had a concert on September 3rd. It would have been fun to attend, but perhaps next time. There's also the 4th Panhellenic Conference on Internal Medicine Problems in Diabetic Patients from September 12-14 if that was of interest.
As I prepare for tomorrow's adventures, I realize that this trip is more than just a vacation; it's a journey of discovery, connection, and love. And I can't wait to see what Pelion has in store for us next.
Good night from Pelion!
