A Fond Farewell to Pelion

As our Pelion adventure draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on the incredible experiences we've shared as a family. Today was all about soaking in the last drops of this magical place, from discovering hidden natural springs to taking in panoramic views that stretched as far as the eye could see. It was a day filled with gratitude for the memories we've created and a touch of sadness that our time here is ending.

Our final day in Pelion began with a delightful breakfast at Loukoulos. The aroma of freshly baked bread and strong Greek coffee filled the air, instantly awakening my senses. Jihad and Lina were equally excited, eager to taste the local delicacies one last time. I savored every bite of the homemade phyllo pastry, reminiscing about my childhood in Zahlé, where similar treats were a staple at family gatherings. It’s funny how food can transport you back in time, evoking cherished memories and a sense of home, no matter where you are in the world. We enjoyed yogurt with honey and walnuts, and Lina had a big smile on her face as she ate her pancakes.

After breakfast, we set off to explore the Spring of Manas. The drive itself was an adventure, winding through lush greenery and charming villages. As we approached the spring, the sound of crystal-clear water became more and more audible, creating a soothing symphony that instantly calmed my soul. The area was surrounded by wildflowers and towering trees, creating a picturesque scene that felt straight out of a fairy tale. Lina was particularly excited, running ahead to dip her hands in the cool water. Jihad and I followed at a more leisurely pace, taking in the beauty of the natural oasis. We walked along the meandering paths, enjoying the peaceful ambiance and capturing the stunning views with my camera.

The Spring of Manas was more than just a pretty spot; it was a place to connect with nature and appreciate the simple joys of life. I felt a sense of tranquility wash over me as I watched Lina explore the surroundings with wide-eyed wonder. It reminded me of the importance of slowing down and cherishing these moments with my family. As an expat living in a bustling city like Toronto, it’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of daily life. But here, in the heart of Pelion, I was reminded of the beauty and serenity that exists beyond the concrete jungle.

Next on our itinerary was the Pelion Cross of Jesus Observation Point. The drive up to the observation point was steep and winding, but the views along the way were more than worth it. As we ascended, the landscape transformed, revealing panoramic vistas of the surrounding mountains and the Aegean Sea. When we finally reached the top, I was speechless. The view was simply breathtaking.

The Pelion Cross of Jesus Observation Point offered a unique perspective on the region's natural beauty. I took several photos, trying to capture the essence of the view, but no image could truly do it justice. It was something that had to be experienced firsthand.

For lunch, we decided to try Souaré Anelion Pelion, a charming restaurant known for its traditional Greek cuisine. We sat on the terrace, enjoying the warm sunshine and the gentle breeze. The menu was filled with local specialties, and we decided to order a variety of dishes to share. We savored the flavors of the fresh seafood, the juicy grilled meats, and the vibrant salads. It was a culinary journey that celebrated the best of Pelion's gastronomy. Lina particularly enjoyed the souvlaki, while Jihad and I relished the moussaka, a classic Greek dish that always reminds me of my mother's cooking.

As the day drew to a close, we made our way to the Red Nose Bar for a final taste of Pelion's nightlife. Although the Red Nose Bar is actually located in Volos, we decided to visit it for a change of scenery, and to experience the nightlife in the nearby port city. The bar had a vibrant atmosphere, with locals and tourists mingling and enjoying the music. I ordered a glass of local wine, while Jihad opted for a signature cocktail. Lina, of course, enjoyed a refreshing juice. We sat outside, soaking in the lively ambiance and reflecting on our incredible journey through Pelion. The Red Nose Bar was the perfect place to say goodbye to this enchanting region.

Before heading back to our guesthouse, we had dinner at 1701 Wine Restaurant. The restaurant had a cozy and intimate setting, with soft lighting and elegant décor. The menu was a fusion of Mediterranean and international flavors, and we were excited to try their culinary creations. We started with a selection of tapas, savoring the explosion of flavors in each bite. For our main courses, I chose the grilled octopus, Jihad opted for the lamb chops, and Lina enjoyed a simple pasta dish. The food was exquisite, and the service was impeccable. It was a memorable dining experience that perfectly capped off our final day in Pelion.

Tomorrow, we begin our journey back home to Toronto. While I am excited to return to our familiar surroundings, I know that a part of me will always remain in Pelion. The memories we've created here will stay with us forever, reminding us of the beauty and wonder that exists in the world.
