Day 10: Waterfalls and Natural Slides
Today was all about embracing the playful side of nature. After several days of intense hiking and soul-searching, I decided to dedicate today to pure, unadulterated fun. Chapada Diamantina, with its unique rock formations and cascading waters, seemed like the perfect place to reconnect with my inner child.
I started my day with a simple breakfast within the park. There's something so invigorating about having a meal surrounded by nothing but the sounds of nature. It sets the tone for the adventures that lie ahead. Today's main goal? To explore the Trilha do Ribeirão do Meio and Cachoeira Dos Funis. I had heard whispers of natural waterslides and hidden waterfalls, and I was determined to find them.
The Trilha do Ribeirão do Meio was my first stop. The trail itself was relatively easy, a welcome change after some of the more challenging hikes I've tackled recently. As I walked, I couldn't help but reflect on how much I've grown to appreciate the simple act of putting one foot in front of the other. It’s a form of meditation, a way to quiet the noise in my head and focus on the present moment. I even observed some historical points that were modified during the mining period. It's amazing how nature reclaims these areas.
As I neared Ribeirão do Meio, I could hear the sounds of laughter and splashing water. It was clear that this wasn't a hidden gem; it was a popular spot, and for good reason. The Ribeirão do Meio is essentially a natural water park, complete with a large natural pool and a rock formation that serves as a waterslide. I watched as people of all ages took turns sliding down, their faces lit up with joy. I couldn't resist joining in. The water was cool and refreshing, and the slide was surprisingly thrilling. It was exactly the kind of carefree fun I needed.

Sometimes, the greatest adventures are the ones where you simply let go and embrace the moment.
After a few hours of sliding and swimming, I decided to head to Restaurante Sabor da Serra for lunch. I wanted to try some local cuisine and recharge before my next adventure. The restaurant was charming, with a rustic atmosphere and friendly staff. I ordered a traditional Bahian dish, moqueca, a seafood stew cooked in coconut milk. It was absolutely delicious, a burst of flavors that left me feeling satisfied and energized.

With my belly full and my spirits high, I set off for Cachoeira Dos Funis. This waterfall is a bit more secluded than Ribeirão do Meio, requiring a bit more of a hike to reach it. The trail wound through lush vegetation, and the air was thick with the scent of damp earth and wildflowers. As I walked, I thought about Jan and Amina. I missed them terribly, but I also knew that this solo journey was something I needed to do for myself. It was a chance to reconnect with my own identity, to rediscover the things that make me feel alive.
Finally, I arrived at Cachoeira Dos Funis. And it was worth the trek. The waterfall cascaded down a series of rocks, creating a series of small pools perfect for swimming. The water was crystal clear, and the surrounding landscape was breathtaking. I spent a long time simply sitting by the water, listening to the sounds of nature and feeling the spray on my face. It was a moment of pure serenity, a reminder of the beauty and power of the natural world.

As the day drew to a close, I made my way to Budha Bar in Vale do Capão. I had read about this bar, and I was curious to check it out. It’s known for its unique atmosphere and diverse menu. While the reviews mentioned the atmosphere was dull, I was still intrigued to experience it myself. I ordered a drink and sat outside, watching the sunset over the mountains. It was the perfect way to end a day of adventure and relaxation. The bar had a certain charm, and I enjoyed the laid-back vibe.

I thought about tomorrow's itinerary: Waterfall Conceição dos Gatos and Poço do Gavião. Another day of waterfalls and natural pools. I was excited to see what these new locations had in store. But for now, I was content to simply soak in the memories of today. I returned to my accommodation within the park, feeling grateful for the experiences I had. Chapada Diamantina was truly a special place, a place where I could reconnect with nature, challenge myself physically, and rediscover my sense of joy. I drifted off to sleep with a smile on my face, already looking forward to the adventures that awaited me tomorrow.
I've been thinking a lot about the balance between adventure and relaxation on this trip. It's so easy to get caught up in the desire to see and do everything, to constantly push myself to the limit. But I'm learning that it's just as important to take time to rest, to reflect, and to simply enjoy the present moment. That's what today was all about, and it's a lesson I'll carry with me long after I leave Chapada Diamantina. I am also reminded of the importance of packing the right essentials. I really wish I hadn't forgotten my sunscreen and travel guidebook. These small comforts make a big difference when you are on a solo adventure.
As I prepare for another day of exploration, I am filled with a sense of anticipation and gratitude. Chapada Diamantina has a way of reminding me of what truly matters in life: connection, adventure, and the simple joy of being alive. And with that, I bid you goodnight, dear readers. Until tomorrow!
