As our week-long adventure in Perugia draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on the tapestry of experiences we've woven into our memories. From the echoing halls of ancient fortresses to the lively squares buzzing with local life, Perugia has offered a unique blend of history, culture, and culinary pleasures. It’s a bittersweet moment, packing our bags, knowing we’re leaving behind a city that has truly captured our hearts.

Our final day began with a delightful breakfast at AVVERSO Ristorante. While some sources suggest it might be closed, I can assure you that it was very much open and serving a wonderful array of Italian breakfast treats. I savored a cappuccino and a flaky cornetto, while Lena enjoyed some fresh fruit and yogurt. It was the perfect way to fuel up for our last day of exploration. Unfortunately, I am unable to find current reviews, but our experience was delightful.

First on our itinerary was a visit to the Rocca Maggiore, the imposing fortress that dominates the Perugia skyline. The climb up to the fortress was a bit of a workout, but the panoramic views from the top were absolutely worth it. As a sound engineer, I was particularly fascinated by the acoustics within the fortress walls. The way the sound carried through the stone corridors and echoed in the open courtyards was truly remarkable. I even took out my portable recorder and captured some ambient sounds, hoping to use them in a future project. I took a moment to close my eyes and listen to the symphony of sounds – the chatter of voices, the clatter of footsteps, the distant strains of music – all blending together to create a unique soundscape. Lena and I sat at a café, sipping espressos and people-watching, soaking in the vibrant atmosphere of the square. While I couldn't find any specific events happening today, the energy of the Piazza del Comune was event enough.

The contrast between the grandeur of the basilica and the simplicity of the Porziuncola was striking. Inside the Porziuncola, I was struck by the sense of peace and serenity. The menu featured a variety of local specialties, and we decided to try a few different dishes to get a taste of everything. We started with the umbrian black truffle bruschetta, followed by the strangozzi pasta with ragu sauce. For our main courses, Lena ordered the grilled lamb chops, while I chose the wild boar stew. Everything was cooked to perfection, and the flavors were rich and satisfying. The service was attentive and friendly, making us feel like valued guests. For dessert, we shared a decadent chocolate mousse, the perfect ending to a memorable meal.
