The crisp morning air greeted me as I stepped off the ferry onto Hvar Island. There's an undeniable charm in arriving at a new place, especially when you're alone, ready to soak in every moment. Today was all about exploration, a blend of active adventure, historical immersion, and of course, indulging in the local cuisine. It was the perfect start to what I hope will be an unforgettable solo journey.

My day began with a hearty breakfast at Fig Hvar. I'd heard whispers of their delicious offerings, and I was not disappointed. Settling into a cozy spot, I ordered the California toast on gluten free bread. The outdoor seating was in a vibrant side street typical of Hvar restaurants. It was the perfect start to fuel a day of biking and exploring. It was a delightful start to the day, setting the tone for the adventures that lay ahead.

With a full stomach and a sense of excitement, I picked up a bike, ready to tackle some of Hvar's famous bike tracks. Hvar - Lesina - Central Dalmatia Croatia - Bike Tracks was my first official stop for the day. The island is crisscrossed with well-marked trails that take you through olive groves, lavender fields and along stunning coastlines. The weather in October is comfortable, with temperatures ranging from 17°C to 20°C. It was ideal for a long ride. I chose a route that would take me through the Stari Grad Plain.

The Stari Grad Plain is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and as I cycled through it, I understood why. The landscape is an ancient agricultural area, divided by the Greeks in the 4th century BC. The stone walls and ancient irrigation systems are a testament to human ingenuity and the enduring connection between people and the land. I stopped to take countless photos, trying to capture the timeless beauty of the scene. It was easy to imagine what life must have been like centuries ago, working the land and living in harmony with nature.

Lunchtime found me at Dalmatino, a restaurant known for its Dalmatian dishes. I decided to try the octopus carpaccio, and it was simply divine. The flavors were fresh and vibrant, a true taste of the Adriatic. I savored every bite, feeling grateful for the opportunity to experience such culinary delights. The staff was friendly and professional. I was offered a small glass of rakija, a local spirit.

After lunch, I couldn't resist a bit of shopping. Isola | artisan store Hvar caught my eye with its display of locally crafted goods. I found a beautiful silver pendant with a small piece of lava stone, a perfect memento of my travels. The store is elegantly designed, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The staff were friendly and eager to share the stories behind the products. I also picked up a few gifts for Astrid and Maximilian, knowing they would appreciate the unique craftsmanship.

As the day wound down, I sought out Vintage Wine Bar, a spot recommended for its extensive selection of Dalmatian wines. The wine bar had around 50 wines. Settling into a cozy corner, I ordered a glass of local red and reflected on the day's adventures. The wine was rich and complex, a perfect complement to the stunning surroundings. The Vintage Wine Bar offers a delightful culinary experience. The ambiance was gorgeous. I made a mental note to return later in the week, perhaps with newfound friends.

For dinner, I chose Konoba Menego, a traditional Croatian tavern known for its authentic cuisine. The restaurant is a cozy, lovely place and is part of the owner's home. The owner and his family were lovely people to interact with. I indulged in a hearty meal of pašticada, a traditional Dalmatian beef stew, savoring the rich flavors and tender meat. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and I felt like I was dining in someone's home. It was the perfect end to a perfect day.

Before heading back to my accommodation, I took a leisurely stroll along the harbor, watching the boats bob gently in the water. The air was filled with the sounds of laughter and music, and I felt a sense of contentment wash over me. Hvar Island had welcomed me with open arms, and I was eager to see what tomorrow would bring.

Tomorrow, I plan to explore the Spanish Fortress Cannon's and delve into the local arts scene at the Hvar Theatre. And, of course, a visit to the Hvar Lavender Fields is a must, especially since I missed packing my lavender essential oil. I'm also looking forward to trying Restaurant Lucullus Hvar for breakfast and Black Pepper Restaurant for lunch. Perhaps I'll even venture out to Central Park Club, Hvar for a taste of the island's nightlife.

As I close my eyes tonight, I'm filled with gratitude for this incredible day. Hvar Island has already captured my heart, and I know that this solo journey will be one for the books.
