A Day of Quiet Contemplation

Today was a day of gentle exploration and quiet reflection, a welcome change of pace amidst the vibrant art scene of Naoshima. It's amazing how this island manages to blend artistic expression with serene natural beauty, creating an atmosphere that soothes the soul. I was really looking forward to today, as I wanted to explore some of the island's more understated charms.

The day started, as many good days do, with a hearty breakfast. I headed over to maimai, a charming little spot known for its delicious and locally-sourced food. I opted for their Naoshima Burger, which was apparently a local favorite. The burger featured fresh Hamachi (young yellowtail) with fluffy buns and house-made tartar sauce. It was the perfect way to fuel up for the day's adventures. It reminded me a bit of some of the seafood sandwiches you can get back home in Croatia, though with a distinctly Japanese twist.

With a full stomach, I made my way to Yokobou Park. I was looking forward to spending some time in nature. The park offered stunning views of the Seto Inland Sea and the surrounding islands. The gentle sea breeze and the sound of the waves created a calming backdrop as I wandered through the park's winding paths. It was the perfect place to clear my head and appreciate the simple beauty of nature.

Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.

After a leisurely stroll through Yokobou Park, it was time for a traditional Japanese tea experience. I went to a place called, appropriately enough, 'Drink a Cup of Tea'. It was more than just a beverage; it was an opportunity to connect with the island's rich cultural heritage. The tea house itself was nestled amidst captivating sculptures, blending seamlessly with the natural landscape. Sipping on the warm, fragrant tea while admiring the art installations was a truly unique and memorable experience. It reminded me of the importance of slowing down and appreciating the present moment.

For lunch, I decided to try Little Plum, a cozy restaurant known for its dishes made with local ingredients. The restaurant had a warm, wood-accented exterior that blended seamlessly with its surroundings. Inside, the decor was modern yet natural, with wooden furnishings and soft lighting creating a relaxing ambiance. I opted for the wild boar sausage from Omishima Island, which was absolutely delicious. Greta would have loved this place; she always appreciates a restaurant with a cozy atmosphere and locally-sourced ingredients.

As the afternoon wore on, I felt a desire to reflect on my experiences of the day. I found a quiet spot overlooking the sea and spent some time journaling. It's funny how travel can bring things into focus, allowing you to see your life from a different perspective. I thought about Greta and Marko back in Heidelberg and felt a pang of longing to be with them. But I also knew that this trip was important for me, a chance to recharge and reconnect with my creative side.

With the sun beginning to set, it was time to think about dinner. I chose Cin.na.mon, a restaurant that had been recommended to me for its Naoshima Curry. It's a 5-minute walk from Miyaura Port. The curry was carefully simmered for over 6 hours. It was the perfect way to end a day of quiet contemplation. The restaurant itself had a unique and inviting atmosphere. It was opened in 2009. I savored each bite, appreciating the rich flavors and the warm ambiance of the restaurant.

After dinner, I decided to check out One Rest, a local bar known for its laid-back atmosphere. I enjoyed a quiet drink, chatting with some of the locals and fellow travelers. It was a great way to unwind and reflect on the day's experiences. The bar had a cozy and intimate feel, with soft lighting and comfortable seating. It felt like a home away from home.

As I walked back to My Lodge Naoshima, the stars twinkled above me, and the sound of the waves lulled me into a peaceful state of mind. Today had been a day of simple pleasures, a reminder that sometimes the most profound experiences are the ones that unfold in quiet moments of contemplation.

Tomorrow, I'm planning to explore Chinu - the Black Sea Bream of Uno and the Walking Ark [if these are art installations, describe them]. I'm also looking forward to trying some new restaurants, including Chikurin for breakfast, Terrace Restaurant for lunch, and Nagomi for dinner. And, if I have time, I might pop into Shimacoya, a local shop.

I am really looking forward to tomorrow, but for now, I'm grateful for the peace and tranquility of today. It's moments like these that make travel so rewarding, allowing you to connect with yourself and the world around you in a deeper, more meaningful way.
