Discover Lisbon's charm with breathtaking views from Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara, vintage shopping, and unforgettable dining experiences.
A Lisbon Daydream
Today was a day of wandering and wonder in Lisbon. I set out without a rigid plan, just a yearning to absorb the city's atmosphere, and it delivered in spades. From panoramic views to vintage treasures and culinary adventures, Lisbon unveiled more of its captivating character. I’m starting to feel like a local, finding my favorite spots and settling into the rhythm of the city.
My day began with a hearty breakfast at Lost In, a restaurant nestled in the Príncipe Real neighborhood. Finding it was a bit of an adventure itself, tucked away behind an Indian textile shop. The climb up was totally worth it. The restaurant, adorned with painted wicker chairs and a Krishna mural, opened up to reveal a terrace boasting what can only be described as *the* panoramic view of Lisbon. I savored a traditional Portuguese breakfast while soaking in the vista, the city unfolding beneath me like a vibrant tapestry. It’s the perfect spot to start the day, feeling like you’re on top of the world, or at least, on top of Lisbon. Lena would have loved this place; I'll have to bring her here someday.

Fueled by caffeine and inspiration, I made my way to the Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara. This viewpoint, easily accessible via the Elevador da Glória, offers another perspective of Lisbon. The gardens surrounding the miradouro were meticulously maintained, providing a tranquil oasis amidst the urban bustle. I spent some time simply enjoying the scenery, identifying landmarks with the help of the azulejo map, and watching the city come alive. I made a mental note to return in the evening; I read that it turns into a romantic spot as the sun sets. I could imagine bringing Sophia here, letting her run around the gardens while Lena and I enjoyed the view.

The best view comes after the hardest climb.
Next on my agenda was exploring the Bairro Alto, a neighborhood known for its nightlife. However, during the day, it reveals a different kind of charm. I wandered through the narrow, cobblestone streets, admiring the street art and soaking in the bohemian atmosphere. I stumbled upon A Outra Face da Lua (Baixa), a vintage clothing shop that immediately caught my eye. As someone who appreciates sustainable fashion, I was excited to browse their curated collection of vintage treasures. I ended up finding a classic leather jacket that fit me perfectly – a unique souvenir with a story to tell. I know Lena would approve of my find; she’s always encouraged me to embrace vintage and sustainable fashion. Plus, it will go great with my camera for future shoots.

Lunch was at Pateo - Bairro do Avillez, a restaurant recommended by several locals. The restaurant is part of a larger establishment by Chef José Avillez. The space was bright and airy, with an open kitchen adding to the lively atmosphere. I decided to focus on appetizers, indulging in a variety of seafood dishes. The flavors were fresh and vibrant, showcasing the best of Portuguese cuisine. It was a delightful culinary experience, and I can understand why it's a favorite among locals and tourists alike. I think Sophia would have loved the atmosphere, so open and inviting.

In the late afternoon, I decided to embrace Lisbon's café culture and visited Delirium Café for a beer. This place, with its Belgian roots, boasts an impressive selection of beers from around the world. The atmosphere was relaxed and inviting, perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring. I enjoyed a refreshing Belgian ale while people-watching and soaking in the ambiance. The staff was friendly and attentive, making me feel right at home. I can see myself returning here for a casual evening drink. I even made a note to check out the Delirium Café when I am back in Berlin.

As evening approached, I headed to Lisboa à Noite for dinner. Situated in one of the entrances of Bairro Alto, this restaurant offers a menu full of Portuguese-inspired delicacies. The ambiance was cozy and inviting, with a touch of sophistication. I savored traditional Portuguese dishes, accompanied by a glass of local wine. The food was delicious, and the service was impeccable. It was the perfect way to end a day of exploration, immersing myself in the flavors of Lisbon. Perhaps Lena and I can enjoy a dinner like this when we get a babysitter for Sophia back in Berlin.

Tomorrow marks the final day of my solo adventure in Lisbon. I plan to visit the LX Factory, a hub of creativity and innovation, and the MAAT (Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology), eager to soak in more of Lisbon’s modern cultural scene. I am also looking forward to breakfast at Cervejaria Ramiro and dinner at Sacramento do Chiado. I might even do some last-minute souvenir shopping at Lisbon Shop. And, of course, I'll be sure to enjoy a final drink at Rive Rouge before heading back to Berlin.
Lisbon has truly captured my heart. Its blend of history, culture, and culinary delights has made for an unforgettable solo journey. As I reflect on my experiences, I am filled with gratitude for the opportunity to explore this captivating city. I’m already looking forward to returning, perhaps with Lena and Sophia in tow, to share the magic of Lisbon with my family.
It's been an incredible journey, and I can't wait to share more stories from my travels soon. Until then, obrigado, Lisbon!
