All Aboard for Adventure!
Today was a day of delightful contrasts, blending the charm of Pelion's historical transport with the tranquility of its natural springs and the vibrant energy of its coastal life. Lena and I embarked on a journey that touched on the heart of Pelion's heritage and the soul of its scenic beauty. From the rhythmic chug of a vintage train to the soothing sounds of a natural spring, and finally, the lively atmosphere of a beachside bar, it was a day packed with experiences that painted a vivid picture of this enchanting peninsula.
Our day began with a hearty breakfast at Synantisi in Kissos. The name 'Synantisi' means 'Meeting' in Greek, and it certainly lived up to its promise as a meeting point of exquisite flavors. We savored traditional Pelion cuisine, made with the freshest local ingredients. Ria, the daughter of Kostas Karkalas, prepared scrumptious appetizers that gave us a true taste of the region. I particularly enjoyed the traditional spetzofai, a hearty sausage and pepper stew, while Lena raved about the homemade tzatziki. Starting the day with such authentic tastes set a wonderful tone for our explorations.

With our appetites satisfied, we headed towards Ano Lechonia to catch The Little Train of Pelion. This historic narrow-gauge railway, affectionately known as “Moutzouris” (the smudgy one), took us on a scenic journey through the mountains. As a software developer, I couldn't help but admire the engineering marvel of this railway, especially the fact that it is one of the narrowest in the world. The rhythmic sound of the rails and the whistle of the locomotive transported us back in time.

The train meandered through lush landscapes, offering breathtaking glimpses of gorges and the Aegean Sea. Lena, with her keen eye for design, was captivated by the stone bridges and tunnels that punctuated the route. The open windows allowed us to feel the fresh mountain breeze and inhale the earthy scent of the trees. We learned that the railway was built between 1894 and 1903 and played a major role in the development of the Pelion villages. It was fascinating to discover that Evaristo de Chirico, father of the famous painter Giorgio de Chirico, supervised the construction.
Every kilometer traveled by the Little Train of Pelion is a dive into history.
After our delightful train ride, we sought out the tranquility of the Spring Of Manas. Located near Portaria, this natural spring is a hidden gem nestled among the verdant mountains. The sound of crystal-clear water flowing created a soothing backdrop as we approached. The lush greenery surrounding the spring was a haven of peace, inviting us to pause and appreciate the serene environment.

We strolled along the paths that meandered through the area, enjoying the cool, refreshing air. The spring is easily accessible, making it a convenient stop while exploring the scenic villages of Pelion. As we took in the natural beauty, I couldn't resist capturing a few photographs, the picturesque views serving as a stunning backdrop. Lena was particularly enchanted by the local wildlife we encountered, adding to the experience of being surrounded by nature.
For lunch, we chose SPECIAL DELIGHT restaurant & cocktail bar in Agios Ioannis. Situated right on the beach, it offered stunning sea views that enhanced our dining experience. I enjoyed some fresh seafood while Lena savored a delicious Greek salad. The relaxed, beachfront atmosphere was the perfect setting to unwind after our morning adventures.

In the late afternoon, we decided to embrace the coastal vibe and headed to Monk Paradise Beach Bar. Located on Agioi Saranta beach in Zagora, this beach bar has been a local favorite for over a decade. The atmosphere was vibrant and welcoming, with a decor inspired by the natural environment. We relaxed on comfortable sun loungers, sipping refreshing cocktails and soaking up the sun.

The music was carefully selected to create the perfect ambiance, starting with relaxing tunes during the day and transitioning to lively DJ sets as the evening approached. It was the kind of place where you could easily spend hours, enjoying the beautiful beach and the company of fellow travelers. As the sun began to set, casting a golden glow over the Aegean Sea, we felt a sense of contentment wash over us.
As the day drew to a close, we made our way to Polydroso restaurant for dinner. Nestled in the mountains, reaching the restaurant involved a climb, but the view from the top was more than worth the effort. The restaurant is run by a talented couple who cultivate and prepare most ingredients themselves. We dined under an ancient chestnut tree, enjoying the best wine and lovingly prepared food. The young waitress was charming and attentive, making our stay even more enjoyable.

The views overlooking Skiathos and Skopelos were breathtaking, adding a touch of magic to our dining experience. I savored the lamb souvlaki, while Lena enjoyed the kolokithoanthoi (stuffed zucchini flowers). The flavors were authentic and unforgettable, a true celebration of Greek gastronomy.
Looking ahead to tomorrow, we plan to explore Saint Konstantinos Park and the Clock Tower. I am particularly excited to visit Botanothēkē, a local shop, while Lena is keen to try Armonia Restaurant for breakfast and Agora 1955 for lunch. It promises to be another day filled with exploration and discovery, delving deeper into the heart of Pelion.

As we reflect on the day's adventures, we are grateful for the opportunity to explore this enchanting peninsula and share its wonders with you. The memories we created today will undoubtedly stay with us long after we leave this beautiful corner of Greece.
The blend of experiences today was a perfect reflection of why we chose Pelion for this trip – a mix of relaxation and adventure, immersed in local culture and stunning landscapes.
