Our final day in Visby was a delightful mix of education, history, and pure, unadulterated fun. It’s amazing how much you can pack into a single day when you’re determined to soak up every last drop of a new experience. Lena and I were eager to make the most of our last few hours on this enchanting island, and Visby certainly didn’t disappoint.

We started our day with breakfast at Visby Beach Club. The morning sun was just beginning to warm the cobblestone streets as we strolled along the waterfront, anticipating a hearty meal to fuel our adventures. The Beach Club offered a serene start to the day, with organic breakfast options and the gentle sound of the waves providing a soothing backdrop. It was the perfect way to energize before diving into our day of exploration.

Our first stop was Fenomenalen Science Centre. As a software developer, I have a natural curiosity for how things work, and I was excited to see what this interactive museum had to offer. Lena, with her artistic eye, was equally intrigued. We weren't disappointed. Fenomenalen is a place for all ages to experience science, technology, and mathematics together. The exhibits were engaging and thought-provoking, and we found ourselves spending far longer than we anticipated. From programming robots to exploring optical illusions, there was something for everyone. It was a refreshing and educational experience, and I even picked up a few fun facts to share with my colleagues back in Berlin. I think I may have enjoyed it even more than Lena did, and that's saying something.

Next on our itinerary was Visborg, the castle ruins that have stood guard over Visby for centuries. The site has a rich history, with the first fortress being built around 1310. Over the centuries, it has been attacked by Swedes, Danes, and Germans and served as a strategic point for various rulers. Walking through the ruins, I couldn't help but imagine the sieges and battles that had taken place within these walls. The panoramic views of the Baltic Sea were stunning, and it was easy to see why this location was so coveted throughout history. Lena and I spent a good hour exploring the grounds, taking photos and soaking in the atmosphere. It's humbling to stand in a place that has witnessed so much history, a silent testament to the passage of time.

For lunch, we decided on Mel's Diner. After all the exploring, we were both craving something hearty and comforting. The portions were generous, the food was delicious, and the prices were reasonable. It was a fun and casual spot, perfect for refueling before our final adventure of the day.

Our last stop, and perhaps the most whimsical, was Kneippbyn, home of Pippi Longstocking's Villa Villekulla. Now, I must admit, I wasn't entirely sure what to expect. I knew Pippi Longstocking was a beloved Swedish children's character, but I wasn't intimately familiar with her stories. However, as soon as we arrived, I was swept up in the magic of the place. Kneippbyn is more than just a theme park; it's a celebration of childhood imagination and adventure. We explored Villa Villekulla, watched a Pippi show, and even took a ride on a carousel. It was pure, unadulterated fun, and it brought out the child in both of us. Lena, in particular, was delighted, and I caught her singing along to the Pippi theme song. It was the perfect way to end our trip, with laughter and joy filling the air.

From Swedish meatballs to grilled halloumi, every bite was a culinary delight. It was the perfect way to savor our last moments in Visby, sharing good food and good company.

After dinner, we decided to check out Surfers Visby for a nightcap. This bar is known for its Sichuan cuisine and vibrant nightlife atmosphere. While we didn't have any more to eat, we enjoyed some expertly crafted cocktails and soaked in the lively ambiance. It was a fun way to say goodbye to Visby, surrounded by music and laughter.

As we walked back to Hotell Repet, hand in hand, I couldn't help but feel a sense of contentment. Our trip to Visby had been everything we had hoped for and more. Visby had captured our hearts, and we knew we would carry the memories of this trip with us for years to come.
