A Fond Farewell to the Blue Pearl

As our Moroccan adventure draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on our time in Chefchaouen. The city's enchanting blue streets have captivated us, and today, our final day, was no exception. It's hard to believe our ten-day trip is already over; it feels like just yesterday we were marveling at the vibrant colors and intricate architecture. Today was all about soaking in the last moments of this magical place, savoring the flavors, and etching the memories into our hearts.

Our day began with breakfast at Restaurant Blue Dream. The cozy atmosphere and the aroma of Moroccan coffee were the perfect start. I opted for a traditional Moroccan breakfast, complete with msemen, honey, and a pot of mint tea. The warm hospitality of the staff made it even more special. It was a delightful way to fuel up for our last day of exploration.

After breakfast, we decided to visit Jamaa, a significant landmark in Chefchaouen. Wandering through the area, I was struck by the intricate details of the architecture and the serene atmosphere. It was a perfect spot for reflection and contemplation, a moment to appreciate the rich cultural heritage of this blue city.

Next on our itinerary was Bab Chaouen, one of the city's iconic gates. As we approached, the history and significance of this ancient entrance were palpable. It was a reminder of the city's storied past and the many travelers who had passed through its gates before us. I couldn’t help but feel a sense of connection to the generations who had walked the same path.

For lunch, we chose Restaurant Dar El Salam, enticed by its reputation for authentic Moroccan cuisine. We sat on the terrace, enjoying the bustling streets of Chefchaouen. The tagine was flavorful, and the couscous was light and fluffy. It was a culinary experience that perfectly encapsulated the essence of Moroccan flavors. Marie particularly enjoyed the ambiance, remarking on how the blue walls seemed to enhance the dining experience.

After lunch, we ventured to B & H Art Shop, a local gem known for its handmade garments and unique Moroccan crafts. I was on the hunt for a special memento to remind me of our trip. The shop was a treasure trove of beautiful items, from traditional attire to contemporary designs infused with local flair. I finally settled on a beautifully embroidered scarf, a perfect reminder of Chefchaouen's vibrant culture. Thomas even found a small leather pouch, perfect for keeping his collection of small trinkets safe back in Antwerp. As I bartered with the shopkeeper, I felt a sense of connection to the local community, a reminder of the warm hospitality we had encountered throughout our journey.

As the day drew to a close, we decided to have dinner at Restaurant Paloma, drawn by its reputation for delicious Moroccan dishes and cozy atmosphere. The restaurant was bustling with activity, and we were lucky to find a table on the terrace. I ordered the tagine, while my friends opted for the couscous and grilled meats. The food was delicious, and the ambiance was perfect for our last night in Chefchaouen. As we savored our final meal, we reminisced about our favorite moments from the trip, from exploring the blue streets to hiking in the Rif Mountains. It was a bittersweet moment, filled with gratitude for the experiences we had shared and a tinge of sadness that our adventure was coming to an end.
