A Day of Exploration and Indulgence

Today was a delightful blend of natural beauty and culinary experiences, perfectly capturing the essence of Mols Bjerge. From exploring historical sites to enjoying local cuisine, every moment was a treat. It’s days like these that remind me why I love traveling with friends – sharing laughter, discovering new places, and creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Our day began with a hearty breakfast at Stenbækhus / mad på Mols. The aroma of freshly baked bread and brewing coffee filled the air as we stepped inside the cozy restaurant. I opted for their brunch menu, carefully selecting ten different items. The youghurt with crumble and syrup was a sweet start, followed by savory scrambleegg with bacon and a flavorful sild with karrysalat. It was the perfect way to fuel up for a day of exploration. I remember when Markus and I first visited a similar spot in Helsinki; the warmth and the friendly atmosphere made us feel right at home, a feeling I cherished today as well. The familystyle restaurant is known for its use of fresh, seasonal ingredients, reflecting the flavors of the region. It was a delightful start to the day, setting a positive tone for the adventures that lay ahead.

With our appetites satisfied, we set off to explore Tremosegaard. The drive there was scenic, with rolling hills and lush greenery stretching as far as the eye could see. Tremosegaard is nestled in a serene spot, surrounded by nature, and it felt like stepping back in time. The area is steeped in history, and I could almost hear the echoes of the past as we wandered through the grounds. The charming of Tremosegaard is enhanced by its proximity to the National Park. We parked the car at Skovbjerg and enjoyed the walk up the hill, through a remnant of the original oak forest. I was also happy to see a covered picnic area with tables, benches, and a fire pit [although we didn't use it]. This was a perfect spot for a family outing.

Next on our itinerary was Jernhatten - Djursland, a coastal gem that promised breathtaking views. As we approached Jernhatten, the landscape transformed, with rugged cliffs meeting the sea. The fresh sea air invigorated us as we began our ascent. The hike to the top was moderately challenging, but the panoramic views were well worth the effort. From the summit, we could see the island of Hjelm in the distance, and the vast expanse of the Kattegat Sea stretching out before us. Jernhatten, part of Mols Bjerge National Park, is located east of Stubbe Sø. The protected area is 49 m high and offers views of the sea towards Hjelm island. The area is known for its twisted troll trees and the beach below. The unique climate with little rainfall and the hill's sun exposure has created special conditions for animal and plant life. There are rare plants that otherwise have their distribution in Southeast Europe.

After soaking in the stunning views at Jernhatten, our stomachs started to rumble, signaling it was time for lunch. We headed to Restaurant Moment, known for its innovative and sustainable approach to dining. Located in the outskirts of Nationalpark Mols Bjerge, the restaurant attracts guests from all over the world. Rikke and Morten Storm Overgaard opened the restaurant eight years ago without experience in the industry and today run an internationally recognized gourmet restaurant with a clear message. The restaurant is located on a former parking lot near the eco-village Friland. The chef, Fabrizio Ferla, serves food made from seasonal ingredients grown as sustainably as possible with respect for the planetary boundaries. The restaurant has won several Danish and international awards and is recommended in the French Michelin Guide. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the staff were passionate about their craft. The menu featured a variety of dishes made with locally sourced ingredients, and each plate was a work of art. I savored every bite, appreciating the thought and care that went into each dish. It was a culinary experience that nourished both body and soul. I remember when Markus surprised me with a reservation at a Michelin-starred restaurant in Copenhagen; it was an unforgettable experience, and Restaurant Moment certainly lived up to those standards.

As evening approached, we decided to unwind at Ørsted Ølbar, a local bar known for its extensive selection of beers. The bar had a cozy and relaxed vibe, and we quickly settled in with a round of drinks. The bartender was knowledgeable and friendly, guiding us through the impressive beer menu. I tried a local brew, savoring the unique flavors and aromas. It was the perfect way to end a day of exploration, sharing stories and laughter with friends. Ørsted Ølbar is a cozy bar in Copenhagen, not surrounded by other bars or cafes. It is located just across from Ørsted Park, close to the city center and Nørreport St. The bar has a large selection of beers with more than 200 different bottles and 20 cool taps.

Tomorrow, we plan to explore more of Mols Bjerge's hiking trails, including Mols Bjerge stien and Kvalitetssti Mols Bjerge, Bjergetapen. I am excited to see what new adventures await us as we continue our journey through this beautiful national park.

Restaurant Mols Bjerge is an excellent Italian restaurant. The pizza and pasta are very tasty. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, the service is friendly, and there is a large terrace to the southwest, perfect for dining on warm summer evenings. The menu changes three or four times a year. The best pizza you can get on Djursland. One of the pasta dishes tasted like being in Italy.

As I reflect on today's adventures, I am filled with gratitude for the opportunity to experience the beauty and charm of Mols Bjerge. From the stunning landscapes to the delicious cuisine, every moment has been a feast for the senses. And as I prepare for another day of exploration, I am reminded of the words of Hans Christian Andersen:

To move, to breathe, to fly, to float,
To gain all while you give,
To roam the roads of lands remote,
To travel is to live.

With that sentiment in mind, I am eager to see what tomorrow brings as we delve deeper into the heart of Mols Bjerge National Park.

I decided to try their pasta, and it was an absolute delight. The flavors were rich and authentic, transporting me back to my travels in Italy. The perfect ending to a day filled with exploration and good company.
