From panoramic viewpoints that stretch the imagination to family-run vineyards brimming with character, it was an experience that truly captured the heart of this wine region. It's days like these that remind me why I traded the familiar streets of Berlin for the winding roads of the Douro.

My day began with a hearty breakfast at Barris Do Douro Restaurante. The restaurant is located in Vila Nova de Gaia, and while it wasn't in the Douro Valley itself, I wanted to start my day with a view of the Douro River before heading out to the valley. I enjoyed a traditional Portuguese breakfast, complete with strong coffee and *pastel de nata*, while watching the early morning bustle along the riverfront. It was the perfect way to fuel up for a day of exploration.

Although technically located back in Vila Nova de Gaia, I couldn't resist the opportunity to explore a wine bar dedicated to small producers, especially those focusing on Port wine. It was a delightful experience, as I sampled a variety of Ports from lesser-known producers. The staff was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate, providing insights into the nuances of each wine.

As the sun began to set, I made my way to Casa do Arco by Douro Exclusive for dinner. I opted for the *bacalhau a baixa temperatura com puré de grão-de-bico e coli de pimento* (cod at low temperature with chickpea puree and pepper coulis). The flavors were exquisite, and the presentation was impeccable. The restaurant's ambiance was intimate and refined, making it a perfect way to end a day of exploration.
