The morning sun cast a golden glow upon the Queluz National Palace as we arrived. Often referred to as the Portuguese Versailles, the palace exuded an air of refined elegance. Elke, with her keen eye for design, was particularly impressed by the ornate, gold-detailed rooms, noting the clear influence of various architectural periods. I opted for the grouper in bread crumble with tomato rice, while Elke chose the ravioli. Both dishes were bursting with flavor, showcasing the best of Portuguese gastronomy. With our appetites satisfied, we ventured into the heart of Lisbon to visit the Lisbon Story Centre. A visit to Primark was on the cards, enticed by the promise of affordable fashion and a chance to pick up some souvenirs. Elke, ever the practical one, found some stylish and comfortable walking shoes, while I managed to snag a few new shirts at a surprisingly reasonable price.

As the day drew to a close, we sought out a place to unwind and enjoy an evening drink. Centro, a local bar, offered a relaxed atmosphere and a selection of Portuguese wines. We savored our drinks, reminiscing about the day's adventures and soaking in the ambiance of the city. It was the perfect way to cap off a day that had been both enriching and enjoyable.

For our final meal of the day, we chose Fatto da Cláudio Coelho, an Italian restaurant in Sintra. While it might seem odd to opt for Italian food in Portugal, the restaurant had garnered rave reviews, and we were curious to see what it had to offer. We were not disappointed. The pasta was cooked to perfection, the sauces were rich and flavorful, and the tiramisu was a delightful indulgence. It was a satisfying end to a day filled with diverse experiences.

Reflections on the Day

Today was a testament to the multifaceted charm of the Lisbon region. As we head into tomorrow, we are looking forward to exploring the Chapel of Our Lady of the Mountain and the Miradouro de Santa Luzia, in Lisbon, which I'm sure will provide us with even more beautiful vistas and photo opportunities. We will also be sure to visit Casa Sintra, and perhaps enjoy a late evening drink at The Clubber Afterhours.

Before I close for the night, it's important to note that I seem to have forgotten my reusable water bottle and portable phone charger. A minor setback, but one that reminds me to be more diligent in the future.
