A Day of Legends and Coastal Breezes

Today marked the beginning of our Pelion adventure, and what a start it was! I'm here with my friends, ready to soak in all the beauty and history this region has to offer. Leaving Berlin behind, even just for a bit, always feels like shedding a layer, and I was eager to dive into the Greek culture and landscapes I've heard so much about. Today was all about experiencing the best of both worlds: the serene mountain trails and the lively coastal vibes.

We kicked off our morning with a hearty breakfast at Loukoulos in Portaria. Fueling up with traditional Greek pastries and strong coffee was the perfect way to prepare for our first activity: a visit to the viewpoint in Portaria. The view was breathtaking! From our vantage point, we could see the city of Volos and the Pagasetic Gulf shimmering in the distance. The vibrant greenery surrounding the village, combined with the clear blue sky, created a picturesque scene that immediately made me feel at peace. It was a moment of pure bliss, and I couldn't help but snap a few photos to capture the beauty.

Next on our list was the Centaurs' Path. The legend of the Centaurs has always fascinated me, so walking on a path said to have been used by these mythical creatures was a truly unique experience. The trail was easy enough, making it perfect for a leisurely hike with friends. We took our time, enjoying the shade of the lush trees and the soothing sound of the streams. The path was well-marked, with red circles guiding us along the way. Along the way, we crossed several wooden bridges and admired small waterfalls, adding to the enchanting atmosphere.

After our mythical hike, we were ready for lunch. We headed to KRITSA Restaurant, also in Portaria. The restaurant had a cozy and inviting atmosphere, and the staff was incredibly friendly. We indulged in a variety of traditional Greek dishes, all made with fresh, local ingredients. The lamb was a standout, cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. We also tried the local pies, which were flaky and delicious. The meal was a true culinary delight, and we left feeling satisfied and energized for the rest of the day.

With our bellies full, it was time to hit the beach! We made our way to Monk Paradise Beach Bar. The beach bar was lively and vibrant, with music playing and people enjoying the sun and sea. The vibe was infectious, and we quickly settled in with some refreshing cocktails. I opted for a classic mojito, while my friends tried some of the local specialties. The bar's setting was idyllic, with comfortable seating and stunning views of the Aegean Sea. We spent the afternoon swimming, sunbathing, and soaking up the relaxed atmosphere.

As the sun began to set, we decided to have dinner at Meintani (Niki's Taverna) in Zagora. The tavern is known for its authentic Pelion cuisine and Mrs. Niki's warm hospitality. The menu changes seasonally, based on the freshest ingredients available. We sat on the balcony, enjoying the view of the green hillside and the Aegean Sea. We ordered a variety of dishes, including stuffed zucchini flowers and tzatziki. Everything was delicious, and it felt like we were dining in someone's home.

Today was packed with incredible experiences. From exploring mythical trails to relaxing on beautiful beaches and enjoying delicious Greek cuisine, Pelion has already captured my heart. I'm excited for what tomorrow brings, as we plan to explore Limnionas Beach and the Pelion Cross of Jesus Observation Point. And who knows, maybe we'll find another hidden gem along the way! We might even stop by Filokaliashandmadecreations to pick up some souvenirs.

It's funny, I almost forgot to pack my portable charger and first aid kit []. Thank goodness my friends remembered theirs, otherwise, I would have been in trouble. Well that is all for today. Until tomorrow!
