My day began in the charming town of Castelo de Vide. After a hearty breakfast at Café Restaurante Realinho - Francisco Realinho & Santos, Lda., I set out to explore the Judiaria de Castelo de Vide, the old Jewish Quarter. The narrow, winding streets whispered stories of a community that thrived here centuries ago. As someone who appreciates architecture and history, I found myself captivated by the well-preserved buildings and the tangible sense of the past. The Judiaria in Castelo de Vide dates back to the 14th century, a time when Jews sought refuge in Portugal from persecution in Spain. The Jewish community left its mark on the town, and you can still see the evidence in the street names and the architecture. I visited the medieval synagogue, a simple building that was once a house in the 12th century and later transformed into a temple in the 14th century. Inside, a tabernacle and a small sink were discovered, confirming its former use.
