Journey to the Mythical Mount Olympus
Day 7: A Day of Mythical Views and Hidden Waterfalls on Mount Olympus
Discover the breathtaking panoramic views and secret waterfalls of Mount Olympus with Juan and Sophie on an unforgettable day of exploration.
Chasing Waterfalls and Panoramic Dreams
Today was a day of pure exploration and wonder here on Mount Olympus. Sophie and I set out with the goal of witnessing some of the most stunning views and discovering hidden gems that this legendary mountain has to offer. It's days like these that make all the planning and preparation worthwhile, reminding me why I love to travel and share these experiences.
Our day began with a delightful breakfast at Médousa. The cozy atmosphere and delicious food set the perfect tone for our adventures ahead. I savored every bite, thinking about how different this was from my usual breakfasts back in Montreal. I made a mental note to try and recreate some of the flavors when I get back home, perhaps surprising Mateo with a Greek-inspired brunch. I am going to have to get Sophie to help me out though, she is definitely the cook in the family.
Fueled up and ready to go, our first stop was the famed panoramic viewpoint. As we ascended, the landscape transformed into a winter wonderland. The crisp air nipped at our faces, but the sight that awaited us at the top was more than worth the chill. The view was simply breathtaking. From our vantage point, we could see the vast expanse of the surrounding landscape, a tapestry of snow-dusted forests and valleys stretching as far as the eye could see. I felt a sense of awe, imagining the ancient gods gazing upon this same vista centuries ago. I took a moment to capture the scene with my camera, hoping to do justice to the sheer magnificence of the view. Sophie and I took some pictures together, and I made sure to take some of just her, as she looked so happy and radiant.

Each place has its own rhythm, and my role is to listen and let that rhythm guide the performance.
Next on our itinerary was the Olympus last secret waterfall. The trek to the waterfall was an adventure in itself. The trail wound through dense forests, the silence broken only by the crunch of our boots on the snow-covered ground and the occasional call of a bird. As a restoration technician, I couldn't help but admire the way nature had sculpted the landscape, the rocks and trees seemingly placed with artistic precision. I even spotted some interesting rock formations that reminded me of some of Montreal's historical sites.
Finally, we reached the waterfall, and it was truly a sight to behold. The water cascaded down the rocks, creating a mesmerizing display of nature's power and beauty. The air was filled with the refreshing mist, and the sound of the water was both calming and invigorating. I thought about how this hidden gem must have been a secret sanctuary for the nymphs and other mythical creatures of Olympus. Sophie was particularly enchanted by the waterfall, and she spent a good amount of time simply taking it all in. Seeing her so happy made the experience even more special for me. She is so good at observing the small details and taking in the beauty of nature.

After our waterfall adventure, we were ready for a hearty lunch. We stopped at Parthenon Restaurant-Bar, where we enjoyed some traditional Greek cuisine. The food was delicious and comforting, and it was the perfect way to refuel after our morning of hiking. I ordered a Moussaka and Sophie got a Greek salad. We shared some Baklava after our meal as well. I savored the flavors, thinking of my mother's cooking back home in Huancavelica. I realized how much I missed the taste of home, and I promised myself to cook a Peruvian feast for Sophie and Mateo when we returned to Montreal. I was also reminded that I needed to call my mother soon.
As the day drew to a close, we decided to unwind at Caldera Bar. The atmosphere was relaxed and inviting, and we enjoyed some drinks as we reflected on our day's adventures. It was the perfect way to end a day filled with mythical views and hidden waterfalls. I enjoyed a local beer, while Sophie had a glass of wine. We talked about our favorite moments of the day, and we laughed about some of the funny encounters we had along the way. It's moments like these that I cherish the most, sharing stories and experiences with my beloved Sophie.

For dinner, we chose Roll in Stone, drawn in by the promise of wood-fired pizza. It was a great choice and a perfect way to end the day. We shared a pizza and reflected on the day. I am always impressed by how much Sophie enjoys simple things like pizza.

As I write this, I'm already looking forward to tomorrow's itinerary. We plan to visit Χιονοσπηλιά and Punkt widokowy. I'm particularly excited about Χιονοσπηλιά; the name itself sparks my curiosity, and I can't wait to see what wonders it holds. Before that, we will have breakfast at Stavros Refuge - Shelter D and lunch at Olympus Taverna. To end the day, we will have dinner at Μπραγάτσα / Bragatsa. We will also have the opportunity to visit Kallntin Handmade shop. I am sure Sophie will be delighted to visit the shop, as she is always looking for unique souvenirs to bring back home.
I am also thinking about Elena Xydia, the Greek pianist who performed on Mount Olympus. I hope that we might be so lucky as to stumble upon something like that.
Tonight, as I close my eyes, I am filled with gratitude for the opportunity to experience the magic of Mount Olympus with my wife. It's a journey that has enriched my soul and created memories that I will treasure forever. I am looking forward to another day of exploration and discovery tomorrow. I am also grateful that I did not forget my camera, even though I forgot my portable charger and raincoat. I will need my camera to capture the memories of the trip, and especially tomorrow's adventures.
