Golden Fields and Gentle Waters

Today was a day of embracing the serene beauty of Hoi An, a departure from the bustling streets of the ancient town into the tranquil embrace of the countryside. It's amazing how quickly the landscape transforms, just a short distance from the vibrant markets and lantern-lit evenings. Today was all about slowing down, connecting with nature, and soaking in the simple pleasures of rural Vietnamese life.

Our day began, as many do here, with a delightful breakfast at Circle Restaurant | Hoi An Burgers and Tacos by Circle Cafe. I opted for a hearty bowl of pho, while Hans enjoyed a western-style breakfast. Fueled up for the day, we set out to explore, with the promise of rice fields and river views guiding our steps. Before our cycling adventure, I couldn't resist popping into BLOOM HOI AN STORE.

I found a beautiful hand-painted silk scarf, the perfect memento of our time here. The shop owner was so kind, sharing stories of her family's silk-making tradition. It's these personal connections that make traveling so enriching.

Lunch at Tan Phat Restaurant - Hoi An was a delicious affair. We shared a plate of Cao Lau, Hoi An's signature noodle dish, and some fresh spring rolls. The flavors were vibrant and fresh, a testament to the local ingredients and culinary expertise. After lunch, we decided to take a stroll along the Thu Bồn River.

The riverbanks were bustling with activity – fishermen casting their nets, locals going about their daily routines, and tourists like us, eager to soak in the atmosphere.

As the afternoon sun began to mellow, we embarked on our cycling adventure through the Hoi An Rice Fields-Cycling&Sunset.

We rented bicycles near the Old Town. The ride started on Trần Hưng Đạo street, then we took Đ. Hai Bà Trưng. The gentle breeze, the warm sun on my skin, and the picturesque scenery made for an idyllic experience. The fields stretched out before us, a sea of green and gold, with farmers tending to their crops. It was a truly immersive experience, a chance to witness the heart of Vietnamese agriculture up close. Hans, ever the architect, was fascinated by the patterns and textures of the landscape, pointing out the intricate irrigation systems and the way the light played across the fields. I found myself thinking of Kati, wishing she could experience this serene beauty. She would love cycling through the countryside, camera in hand, capturing the essence of rural Vietnam.

The beauty of Hoi An lies not only in its ancient architecture but also in the tranquil rhythm of its countryside.

We stopped at a local cafe overlooking the rice fields, Roving Chillhouse, where we enjoyed refreshing coconut juice and watched the world go by. The cafe was a haven of tranquility, with comfortable seating, friendly staff, and stunning views. As the sun began to dip below the horizon, we made our way back towards the Thu Bồn River for a sunset cruise. We found a small boat near the Hoi An Central Market and negotiated a price with the boatman. As we glided along the water, the sky transformed into a canvas of vibrant colors – oranges, pinks, and purples, reflecting off the water's surface. The river was alive with activity – other boats carrying tourists, fishermen returning with their catch, and locals enjoying the cool evening breeze. It was a magical experience, a perfect end to a perfect day.

Dinner at Hoi An Riverside Restaurant was a delightful culinary experience.

We savored fresh seafood dishes while enjoying the gentle sounds of the river. The restaurant's ambiance was warm and inviting, with lantern lighting and traditional Vietnamese decor. As we ate, we reminisced about our day, sharing our favorite moments and reflecting on the beauty of Hoi An. I told Hans about my childhood in Võru, how much this scenery reminded me of the Estonian countryside. The peace and quiet, the connection to nature – it all felt so familiar and comforting.

Tomorrow, we plan to explore Cua Dai Beach and visit the Hoi An Handicraft Village. I am particularly excited about the handicraft village, as I am eager to learn more about the local crafts and perhaps even try my hand at creating something myself. Hans is looking forward to some relaxation on the beach, soaking up the sun and enjoying the sea breeze.

As I sit here now, writing this blog post, I am filled with a sense of gratitude for the experiences of today. Hoi An has a way of captivating the soul, of slowing down time and allowing you to appreciate the simple things in life. It's a place where you can connect with nature, immerse yourself in culture, and create memories that will last a lifetime. I am so grateful to be sharing this journey with Hans, my partner in life and adventure. And I am excited for what tomorrow will bring, for the new discoveries and experiences that await us in this enchanting town. I'm also glad we didn't forget the sunscreen today, remembering our Trip Essentials is getting easier!
