As our family adventure in Alleppey draws to a close, today was all about embracing the unique experiences this region has to offer. From the gentle giants at the Elephant Training Camp Alleppey to the serene shores of Aloha Beach, it was a day filled with memorable moments and a deeper appreciation for the beauty of Kerala.Discover the enchanting world of elephants at the Elephant Training Camp in Alleppey, Kerala—an unforgettable adventure for wildlife enthusiasts.
We started our day with a hearty breakfast at Aramana Restaurant. Priya and I enjoyed some traditional Kerala dishes, while Aarav happily munched on his favorite idlis. The restaurant had a charming ambiance, blending traditional architecture with modern touches, and the food was simply delicious. I made sure to try their Chicken Kondattam and Beef Roast with Kerala Porotta, which were packed with flavor. It was the perfect way to fuel up for our day of exploration.
With our bellies full, we set off to the Elephant Training Camp Alleppey. I had read mixed reviews about the camp, with some expressing concerns about the treatment of the elephants. However, I wanted to see it for myself and make an informed opinion. The camp was located a short drive from our current accommodation, nestled amidst lush greenery.
Sometimes, the most profound experiences come from observing the simple interactions between humans and animals.
Upon arrival, we were greeted by the sight of several elephants being cared for by their mahouts. Aarav's eyes lit up with excitement as he saw the gentle giants up close. We learned about their daily routines, including bathing, feeding, and training. I must admit, it was a bit disheartening to see some of the elephants tied up, but the mahouts seemed genuinely caring and knowledgeable about elephant care.
We decided to take an elephant ride, which Aarav thoroughly enjoyed. It was a short ride, but it gave us a unique perspective of the surrounding landscape. We also had the opportunity to feed the elephants, which was a humbling experience. Aarav was particularly thrilled to offer them bananas, and their gentle acceptance of the treat was heartwarming. While the camp wasn't a conservatory in the truest sense, it did offer a chance to interact with these majestic creatures and learn about their lives.
After spending a couple of hours at the Elephant Training Camp, we drove to Aloha Beach, seeking some relaxation and tranquility. The beach was relatively quiet, with golden sands and clear blue waters. It was the perfect spot to unwind and soak in the natural beauty of Alleppey. Aarav wasted no time in running towards the waves, his laughter echoing along the shore.

Priya and I sat under the shade of a palm tree, watching Aarav play. The gentle sea breeze and the sound of the waves crashing against the shore were incredibly soothing. I couldn't help but reflect on our journey so far, the incredible experiences we've had, and the memories we've created as a family. This trip to Alleppey has been more than just a vacation; it's been a journey of discovery, connection, and appreciation.
As the sun began to dip towards the horizon, we decided to take a stroll along the beach. The sky was painted with vibrant hues of orange, pink, and purple, creating a breathtaking spectacle. We collected seashells, built sandcastles, and simply enjoyed each other's company. It was a perfect ending to a perfect day.
For lunch, we stopped by Alleppey Kitchen - every bite a story. The restaurant lived up to its name, offering a delightful culinary journey through Kerala's rich flavors. We savored some traditional South Indian dishes, including aromatic curries, crispy dosas, and fragrant biryanis. The food was incredibly fresh and flavorful, and the staff were warm and welcoming. It was a truly authentic dining experience.
In the late afternoon, Priya wanted to do some shopping, so we headed to DE NAIRA BOUTIQUE. Priya was impressed with the selection of traditional and contemporary clothing, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of the region. She found a beautiful saree and a stylish kurta for herself, while Aarav picked out a colorful t-shirt. The staff were helpful and friendly, making the shopping experience a breeze.
For our final dinner in Alleppey, we chose Choola Multi Cuisine Restaurant. The restaurant had a fantastic view of Punnamada Lake, creating a serene and romantic ambiance. We tried some local delicacies, including Karimeen Pollichathu and seafood masala. The food was delicious, and the lakeside setting made it even more special. It was a perfect way to celebrate the end of our incredible journey in Alleppey.
As I sit here, writing this blog post, I can't help but feel a sense of gratitude for the experiences we've had in Alleppey. This trip has been a reminder of the importance of family, connection, and appreciation for the beauty of the world around us. While I had initially considered booking a houseboat for our entire stay, I'm glad we chose to keep our options open. It allowed us to explore different facets of Alleppey and immerse ourselves in the local culture.
Tomorrow, we will be heading back to Kochi to prepare for our flight back to Toronto. While I'm excited to return home, I know that a part of me will always remain in the serene backwaters of Alleppey. This family adventure has created memories that we will cherish for a lifetime.
