A Coastal Day in Alleppey

Today was all about embracing the coastal vibes and family fun in Alleppey. We soaked up the sun at Alappuzha Beach, enjoyed some playful moments at Vijay Park, and indulged in the local flavors that this beautiful town has to offer. It’s days like these that remind me why I love traveling with Priya and Aarav – every experience is amplified by their joy and curiosity.

Our day began with a hearty breakfast at World In The Pot - Ramada Alleppey. I must say, starting the day with authentic Alleppey dishes was a fantastic idea. The Ramada is conveniently located near the Nehru Trophy Boat Race finishing point, and offers stunning views of Punnamada Lake. Priya enjoyed the South Indian delicacies, while Aarav couldn't get enough of the pastries. It was a perfect start to a day filled with exploration. I made sure to try some of the local dishes, soaking in the flavors that make this region so unique. The hotel’s ambiance was lovely, and the staff were incredibly welcoming, making our breakfast experience even more special.

With our stomachs full and spirits high, we headed to Alappuzha Beach. The beach was bustling with activity, and the August sun was warm and inviting. Aarav was immediately drawn to the waves, and Priya and I joined him in building sandcastles and chasing the receding tide. The golden sands of Alappuzha Beach stretch along the shoreline, providing a serene setting for us to unwind. The beach is known for its stunning sunsets, but even during the day, it was a captivating sight. We took a leisurely stroll along the beach, enjoying the sea breeze and the sound of the waves. I made sure to apply sunscreen, remembering the essentials I had packed, though I did have a momentary pang of regret for forgetting the umbrella back home in Toronto. The beach was relatively clean, although a bit crowded, which is to be expected on a Friday.

Sometimes, the most cherished memories are made in the simplest of moments, like building sandcastles with family on a sun-kissed beach.

Next on our itinerary was Vijay Park, a delightful amusement park designed with children in mind. Located near Alappuzha Beach, it was a convenient and scenic walk from the shore. Aarav was ecstatic as he spotted the various rides and attractions. The park had a variety of activities, from pedal boating to thrilling rides and engaging video games. While the park showed some signs of needing maintenance, Aarav was too excited to notice, and his joy was infectious. We spent a couple of hours here, enjoying the family-friendly atmosphere and creating cherished memories. I even tried my hand at a few of the games, much to Aarav’s amusement. The park offered a perfect blend of recreation and natural beauty, making it an ideal destination for families. The entry fee was reasonable, though the additional charges for rides did add up. Despite some minor issues, the park’s clean environment and the variety of activities made it a worthwhile visit.

After our playful interlude at Vijay Park, we decided to indulge in some retail therapy at Fabindia, Mullakkal, Alappuzha. Priya was keen on exploring the trendy and ethnic clothing that the store offered. The store was well-stocked with modern garments, including an impressive selection of kurtas and dresses. I appreciated the quality craftsmanship and the store's commitment to sustainability. While the sizes were somewhat limited, Priya managed to find a few beautiful pieces that she loved. Aarav, on the other hand, was more interested in the accessories and the vibrant colors of the fabrics. The staff were attentive and helpful, making our shopping experience enjoyable. Fabindia is more than just a clothing store; it’s a cultural experience that reflects the rich heritage of India.

For lunch, we chose Classic Regency Restaurant (Rasoi), known for its seafood. The restaurant's convenient location made it easy to reach, and we were quickly seated. The menu offered a variety of options, but we decided to focus on the local specialties. Priya ordered the fish curry, while I opted for the prawns. Aarav, surprisingly, chose the soup. The food was delicious, and the service was fast and friendly. The prices were reasonable, making it a great value for the quality of the meal. The calm atmosphere of the restaurant added to the overall dining experience. It was a perfect spot to relax and refuel after a busy morning of beach fun and shopping. We were very happy with the food and service and would recommend it to anyone visiting Alappuzha.

As the day drew to a close, we made our way to The Ocean Kitchen for dinner. Located in Chungam, this restaurant is known for its commitment to quality ingredients and exceptional service. The elegant interior created a cozy and refined ambiance, making our dinner feel special. We savored a variety of seafood dishes, each prepared with fresh, local ingredients. The warm lighting and tasteful decor added to the overall dining experience. The Ocean Kitchen is a culinary haven where tradition meets innovation, and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal.

“The best journeys answer questions that in the beginning, you didn't even think to ask.”
Tomorrow, we’re planning to visit Amaze World (Vijay Park Alappuzha) for some more amusement park fun and then head to Punnamada Lake. I’m particularly excited about the lake, as I've heard it offers breathtaking views and a chance to experience the serene backwaters up close. If we have time, I might even sneak away for a quick drink at Camelot Bar.
Given that the Nehru Trophy Boat Race is held annually on the second Saturday of August in Punnamada Lake, it will be interesting to visit the location a day before. This year, the spectacular event is scheduled to take place on August 9, 2025.

Today was a beautiful blend of relaxation, adventure, and cultural immersion. Alleppey has a way of captivating you with its serene beauty and vibrant culture. As we head back to our accommodation, I can’t help but feel grateful for these moments with my family. It’s these shared experiences that make our travels so special and create memories that will last a lifetime. The weather in August is quite pleasant, with temperatures ranging from 24°C to 27.7°C, making it comfortable for exploring. The lush green landscapes rejuvenated by the monsoon showers add to the picturesque setting.

Until tomorrow, safe travels!
