A Day of Serenity and Exploration

Today was a beautiful blend of natural beauty and spiritual contemplation. From the pristine shores of Ile au Cerf to the peaceful ambiance of the Immaculate Conception church, La Digue continued to enchant me. It was a day filled with delicious food, refreshing drinks, and moments of quiet reflection, making it a perfect addition to our family adventure.

Our day began with a hearty breakfast at A Taste of Italy. I know, I know, Italian food in Seychelles? But hear me out! It was a delightful change of pace, and they had some incredible pastries that reminded me of the little *pâtisseries* in Bonn. Hans, of course, was in his element, reminiscing about our favorite Italian restaurant back home while devouring a *cornetto*. It's funny how food can transport you across continents!

With our bellies full, we set off for Ile au Cerf. The boat ride itself was an experience, the turquoise waters glistening under the morning sun. As we approached the island, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement. Ile au Cerf is a part of the Ste Anne Marine National Park, and the vibrant marine life was already visible from the boat. The island is small, only about 1.7 kilometers long, but it's packed with natural beauty. We spent the morning snorkeling, marveling at the colorful coral reefs and the countless species of fish darting around. Hans was particularly thrilled, as he's always been fascinated by marine biology. I, on the other hand, was content to simply float and soak in the sun, feeling grateful for this moment of peace.

Sometimes, the most profound experiences are found in the simplest moments, like the gentle lapping of waves or the quiet whisper of prayer.

After our aquatic adventure, we decided to explore the island on foot. Cerf Island is a haven for wildlife, and we were lucky enough to spot a few giant tortoises lumbering through the undergrowth. These gentle giants always remind me of my childhood in Anse Boileau, where they were a common sight. It’s comforting to see them thriving here, a testament to the island's commitment to conservation. We even stumbled upon a small, secluded beach where we relaxed for a while, listening to the soothing sounds of the ocean.

Leaving Ile au Cerf, we headed back to La Digue for lunch at Avocet. This restaurant, nestled on Mahé Island, is known for its blend of French elegance and vibrant Creole flavors. Though it was a bit of a detour, the experience was worth it. The restaurant's ambiance was lovely, with stunning coastal views that added to the charm. I opted for a Creole seafood dish, while Hans went for a classic French pastry. Both were absolutely divine, a perfect marriage of flavors that captured the essence of Seychelles.

In the afternoon, we visited the Immaculate Conception church. As a Seychelloise, I have a deep appreciation for the role of religion in our culture, and I wanted to share this with Hans. The church, though not as grand as some European cathedrals, exuded a sense of peace and tranquility. I lit a candle for my family back home, whispering a prayer for their health and happiness. Hans, though not particularly religious, seemed moved by the serenity of the place. We sat in silence for a few moments, each lost in our own thoughts, before stepping back out into the bright sunshine.

As the day drew to a close, we decided to treat ourselves to dinner at The Salty Mug. This takeout restaurant in Pointe Au Sel is renowned for its fresh, locally sourced ingredients and authentic Creole cuisine. We ordered a variety of dishes, from grilled fish to flavorful curries, and found a spot on the beach to enjoy our meal. The sunset was spectacular, painting the sky in hues of orange, pink, and purple. It was a perfect ending to a perfect day, a moment of pure bliss that I will cherish forever.

To cap off the evening, we ventured to Next Level Bar Lounge and Entertainment for a nightcap. Located in Victoria, it was a lively spot with a great atmosphere. We sipped on tropical cocktails, enjoying the music and the company of fellow travelers. It was a fun and vibrant way to end our day, a celebration of the beauty and joy of life.

Looking ahead to tomorrow, we're planning a trip to Saint-Anne Marine National Park and Venn's Town - Mission Lodge. I'm particularly excited about Saint-Anne, as I've heard it's a paradise for snorkeling and diving. And of course, we'll be sure to sample the local cuisine at Moutya for breakfast, The Copper Pot for lunch, and the intriguing Barbaron Fried Chicken for dinner. I'm also hoping to find some unique souvenirs at COCO, a local shop known for its crafts.

Today was a reminder of why I love La Digue so much. It's a place where you can reconnect with nature, find solace in spirituality, and savor the simple pleasures of life. And as I reflect on our adventures, I'm filled with gratitude for this opportunity to share my heritage with Hans and create lasting memories with my family. Until tomorrow, *à bientôt*!
